"Ile needs love ',
The shy, beguiling smile belongs to Nevil, 18 months
old. As you see, he is a very handsome little fellow with
big blue eyes, blonde hair, and rosy cheeks. His back
ground is Anglo-Saxon.
Nevil is in good health except that his fair skin is very
dry. The condition is not apparent on his face, but his lit-
tle body looks flaky. Though the dryness does not bother
him at all, it means he cannot be washed with whatever
soap is in family use. Ilis skin must be cared for with spe-
cial oils.
This quiet youngster regards strange adults with suspi-
cion. When he feels comfortable with people, he likes to
snuggle up and he read to. Ile is happiest when playing
with a little boy about the same age in his foster home.
Nevi! is reaching his milestones at an average rate or
sometimes ahead. Ile walked at 10 months, for instance.
Ile doesn't talk mueh, but obviously understands every-
thing said to him.
This appealing baby will be a rewarding son for a fam-
ily who will give him lots of love and time to feel that he
really belongs. To inquire about adopting Nevil, please
write to Today's Child, Box 888, Station K., Toronto. For
general adoption information. ask your Children's Aid
Society.

You're in the centre of "what's happening"
when you stay at the Lord Simcoe. Attractions like
the O'Keefe Centre, the Toronto Dominion Centre,
new City Hall, the Royal Alex Theatre, fascinating
shops — all are only walking minutes from the
front door, And for activities at Maple Leaf Gar-
dens or the C.N.E. grounds, the subway and
streetcars are right outside the front door.
Enjoy a weekend or a week at the Lord Simcoe —
you'll find the prices surprisingly sensible,

FROZEN VEGETABLES SAVE
TIME IN MEAL PREPARATION
Looking for a short cut to
meal preparation? Frozen
vegetables may be one answer.
They are all ready to pop into a
small amount of boiling salted
water. The pot should be
covered and the heat lowered
when the water returns to
boiling. 'Tis wise to remember
that the vegetables have been
partially cooked during
blanching. They therefore
require a very short cooking
time, as stated on the package.
Carefully cooked vegetables are
colorful, flavorful, nutritious
and appealing.
The grades of frozen
vegetables commonly available
are Canada Fancy and Canada
Choice. These vegetables should
be of good color, uniform in
size, and reasonably free of
ice crystals. The latter factor is
determined by the handling and
storage conditions between
processing and cooking. Ideally
all frozen foods should be' tept
at 0 degrees or lower.
Fluctuating temperatures and
careless handling either in the
store or at home will cause icing.

JOHN VEENSTRA
John Veenstra, RR 4 Clinton,
died in Clinton Public Hospital
on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1971. He
was 17 years old.
He was born on Oct. 29,
1954, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Veenstra. He was a
student at Central Huron
Secondary School, Clinton in
grade 12 and belonged to the
Christian Reformed Church,
Clinton.
He is survived by his parents
and three brothers: Louis of
Kitchener, Fred and Arnold at
home, three sisters, Mrs. Jack
(Gertie) Gerrits, RR 4, Clinton,
Elizabeth and Sylvia at home;
and his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Veenstra, Friesland,
Holland and Mr. and Mrs. Fred
De Vries, RR 7, Thamesville.
A funeral service took place
Monday, Dec. 13, 1971 from the
Christian Reformed Church with
the Beattie Funeral Home in
charge. Rev. A. Beukema
officiated, Interment was in
Clinton cemetery.
Pallbearers were Louis
Veenstra, Jack Gerrits, Herman
Gerrits, Cor Bos, John Bylsma
and Auke Bylsma.
MRS. FLORELLA STELCK
Funeral services were held
Nov. 25, 1971 for Mrs. Florell
Stelck, 89, a• resident of
Edmonton for more than 58
years.
Born in Bayfield, Ont, the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Richard. Stanbury, she married
Robert Stelck• and the couple
moved west in 1913 taking up
residence on 124th Street, the
former Norris Estate,
Mr, Stelck, a member of Odd
Fellows Lodge No. 7, died In
1935.
Before her marriage, Mrs.
Stelck taught school in the
Bayfield and Toronto areas
before going west. She also
tutored many Edmonton high
school students in English and
French.
She was an active community
worker, a member of the
Westmount Presbyterian Church
and a co-founder of the
Westmount United Church,
For many years Mrs. Stelck
vegetables are available in
two-pound bags, enough for 10
servings. These are usually more
economical per serving, than the
smaller packages. Once the
required amount of vegetables is
removed at cooking time the bag
should be reclosed tightly and
returned to the freezer
immediately. Frozen vegetables
are also packed in one standard
size package or carton. The net
weight is stated on the packages
and may read 14, 12, 11 or 10
ounces, Because one size of
package is used for all,
vegetables, and because the size
and shape of the various
vegetables differ, hence the
different weights to fill the
packages. Packages of peas,
whole kernel corn, lima beans,
spinach and leafy greens (whole
or chopped) contain a net
weight of 12 — ounces; squash
cooked or uncooked, 14 ounces;
mixed vegetables (three or more
kinds together), peas and carrots
together and sliced or diced
carrots, 11 ounces; asparagus
(tips or chopped), broccoli
(spears or chopped), Brussels
sprouts, cauliflower, green and
wax beans (cut or "French
style") 10 ounces. These
packages provide three or four
servings.
Frozen vegetables with butter
in sauce are packed into
vacuum-sealed bags and the
vegetables are boiled in these
bags. These are more expensive,
understangably, and the
homemaker must decide if the
convenience outweighs the cost.
The home economists at
Canada Agriculture, Ottawa have
tried other ways of cooking
frozen vegetables than the usual
boiling water method. Frozen
peas, beans and corn will have
more flavor if cooked by one of
the following methods:
1) for three or four servings
melt two tablespoons butter in
top of double-boiler. Add
vegetables, sprinkle with salt,
cover and cook over boiling
water until tender. About 20
minutes is sufficient.
2) Place three or four servings
of vegetables in greased
casserole, sprinkle with salt and
dot with 2 tablespoons butter.
Cover and bake at 325 degrees F
for 35 to 40 minutes.
Frozen broccoli and
asparagus, cooked by the same
methods.as above, lost color due
to the length of the cookiii
time. Frozen Brussels sprouts
were not successful as more
steam is necessary to tenderize
them.
was president of the Girl's Work
Board of the CGIT movement
and promoted girls' camping in
Alberta.
She was the aunt of Senator
Richard Stanbury of Toronto
and Communications Minister.
Robert Stanbury.
Mrs. Stelck is survived by one
son, Dr. Charles R. Stelck of
Edmonton; two daughters,
Margery and Kathleen Stelck, of
Edmonton; four grandsons,
David, Brian, Leland and John;
and two great-grandsons,
Michael and Ryan.
Funeral services were
