Leonard Schnell of London, representing the Canadian Bible Society had charge of the Services in Varna and Goshen United Churches last Sunday. A canvass of the community will be held during the next couple of weeks. The Explorer Group met last Tuesday evening with 12 members present. The president Bev. Cantelon opened the meeting. The scripture lesson was read by Anne Marie Heard. Prayer was by Bev. Cantelon. The Roll Call was answered by "What Christmas means to you". The offering was taken up by Judy Frisby. The Study Book was led by Mrs. Barry Taylor followed by Crafts. The president closed the meeting with the Explorer prayer. The December meeting of the United Church Women will be held on Thursday evening of this week in the Church. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McClymont returned home last Friday after spending a week with relatives at Guelph, King City and -Willowdale. Rev. Murdock Morrison was a patient in Victoria Hospital last week. Sunday School room of the church last Wednesday with Unit 2 in charge. The pianist was Mrs, James Jackson. Mrs, Bert Marsh opened the meeting. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Robert Arthur followed by prayer. The offering was received by Mrs. Ted Mills and Mrs. Robert Arthur. A solo was sung by Mrs. Gordon Chamney. An interesting skit was presented by Mrs. Bert Marsh, Mrs. Maurice Bean, Mrs. Stanley Ball, Mrs. Dorothy Grange and Mrs. Elliott Lapp. Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer presided for the business part of the ,meeting. The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Beth Lansing. The treasurer, Mrs. Norman McDowell presented the financial statement. The flower and card report was given by Mrs. Torrance Tabb. Mrs. Plaetzer read the purpose of the U.C.W. A short talk on Stewardship was given by Mrs. Maurice Bean. Mrs. Ted East presented the slate of officers which was accepted. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston visited last Thursday with his sister Mrs. Ethel Farrow at Mitchell who is convalescing after surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell was their daughter, Miss Diane Kirkconnell, and her friend, Miss Rose Hockema, both of London, Miss. Diane Rivett of Dungannon, their nephew Mr. Donald Snelling of Ingersoll. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weston of Toronto spent the first part of the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Alfred Rollinson and Murray Rollinson. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Keller of Dublin visited last Wednesday with their daughter, Mrs. Harry Arthur. Mr. and Mrs. John Weir and Mrs. Elsie Eustace of London and Mrs. William Stiles of Goderich visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Duncan MacKay. Mr. and Mrs. John Daer visited over the weekend with members of their family in the Mitchell area and also their son-in-law, Bob Zeiler of California who was visiting at Mitchell with his family. Nearly 40 Auburn and district 4—H girls attended the Goderich Achievement Day last Saturday in the Clinton District High School for the fall project "Dairy Fare." Miss Catherine Hunt, home economist was .in charge of the day's program assisted by Mrs. SuSan Wheatley of Dublin and Mrs. •Ruth Axtmann of Walton. The morning session was taken up with girls judging menus, identifying dairy products and giving reasons. Miss Hunt introduced , the leaders and assistants and presented badges to Tiger Dunlop I. Mrs. Wendy Hoerning, Miss Brenda Moore, Tiger Dunlop II, Miss Helen BrindleY; Goderich I, Mrs. ,,Alice Porter, Mrs, Bernice Mcllwain; Goderich II, Mrs, Aileen McGregor; Auburn I, Mrs,, Eleanor Bradnock, Mrs. Frances Clark. Auburn II, Mrs. Marion Haggit, Mrs, Viola Raithby; Auburn III, Mrs, Tena Empey, Miss Heather Elliott, Holmesville I; Mrs. Frank Yeo, Miss Bonnie Westbrook, Holmesville II; Mrs. Eldon Yeo, Miss Barbara Wise. An interesting film on keeping fit was shown by Miss Hunt. The afternoon's program began with Tiger Dunlop's skit, Milk's the Greatest with all members taking part. Tiger Dunlop II spoke on their exhibit, Three Ways with Cheese with Karen McPhee and Marie Willis as commentators. All members of Holmesville III presented the skit, Snack Bar using dairy products. Holmesville II had Lauralanne Bond and Carole Weber speak on their exhibit, There's Magic in Milk. Auburn I presented the Milk Bar with Arva Ball as bartender and Joanne Hickey and Doreen McClinchey as the waitresses assisted by Karen and Sandra McClinchey. The other members were customers who ordered dairy products rather than chips and cokes. The many forms of ,milk was an interesting exhibit set up by Holmesville I and Sharon Potter and Bonnie Westbrook commented on it. Goderich II members presented the Gourmet in Dairyland using the favorite T.V. character as a take-off. Auburn II had an interesting exhibit, There's Magic in Milk with Lorraine Chamney as commentator assisted by Doris Naylor. Goderich I members presented the skit, Milk's the Greatest and Auburn III presented a demonstration, Dairy Dips and Snacks with Cathy McClinchey commentating and Margaret Franken and Barbara Empey demonstrating the various tasty snacks and dips. County Honors were presented to Jane Harris, R. R. 2, Bayfield; Joan Miller, R. R. 2, Bay field; Cheryl Kotyk, Goderich; Lorraine Chamney, R. R. 1, Auburn; Lynn Turner, Auburn; Heather Elliott, R. R. 2, Goderich; Marie Empey, R. R. 2, Auburn; Carol Gross, R. R. 1, Auburn; and Brenda Wise, R. R. 3, Clinton. Provincial Honours for completing 12 projects were presented to Susan Lobb, It. R. 2, Clinton, Donna Chamney, R. R. 2, Auburn; Connie Hickey, R. ft, 3, Auburn. Leadership awards were presented to Mrs. William Porter for 10 years leading 4—H clubs and to Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock, the 15 year leadership award. Plans were made for the spring project — Sleepwear. held a birthday celebration for Mr, Austin Dexter, Mrs. Irene Grimoldby spent the weekend with her daughter Mrs. Olive Betties of Winthrop. They spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Merideth of St. Clements when they held their family Christmas celebration before Mr. and Mrs. Theron Settles leave for Florida this week for the winter months. Mr. Bill Whyte of Guelph spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. W. L. Whyte, Tom and Mr. Harold Whyte. Mr. and Mrs. Carman Scarrow held a rehearsal party on Friday evening, prior to the wedding on Saturday evening of their son Jim and Agnes ' Dolmage in Winthrop Church with about 30 guests attending. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Thompson of Ottawa spent the weekend with his parents Mr, and Mrs. John Thompson, Jim, Sharon and Bob. Mrs. W. L. Whyte Tom and Mr. Harold Whyte spent Sunday in London visiting with Mrs. Finlay Perrin. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Scott, Melanie Meribeth and Jeffrey of Belgrave were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bill, Dale and Cheryl. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchanan, Bill, Doug, Betty and Bobby spent Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. George Hart of Brussels. Wed in Fort Frances ROSS HUSTON On Friday, November 12, 1971, in Knox United Church, Fort Frances, Ont., Bette Carole, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Austin Huston, Peterborough, Ontario, was united in marriage to William John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ewan Ross, Goderich, Ontario. Rev. Lloyd Agnew, minister of Knox Church, officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Ian Goldby, Fort Frances, attended the young couple. Mr. and Mrs, Ross are residing in' Fort Frances, where both are members of the teaching staff here. Bette teaches art and music, and John, a graduate of Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton, and of London Teachers' College, teaches French in the senior grades. Miss Pearl Thamer of Walton visited on Sunday with Mrs. Luther Sanders. Mr. and Mrs, Allan Pfaff, Elaine and Dennis of Crediton, Mr. and Mrs, Jim Preszcator Billy and Debbie were Sunday visitors with Mr, and Mrs. Ken Preszcator, Dianne and Nancy.
