JAMES B. JACKSON Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the J. Keith Arthur Funeral home for James B. Jackson who passed away in Clinton hospital on Oct. 13. Born December 28, 1890 in Hullett Township, he was the son of the late William Jackson and Jessie Laidlaw. He farmed in Hullett Township on Con. 13 until he retired to live in Auburn. He was married to the former ,Catherine Wagner who survives him. He was a member of Knox United Church where he was a member of the Session and the choir for many years. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Kai of Oakville and one sister, Miss Margaret R. Jackson of Blyth. One brother John and a sister Annie predeceased him, Pastor Alfred Fry conducted the services with' burial taking place in Ball's cemetery. The pallbearers were Oliver Anderson William Wagner, Joseph Verwey, Elliott Lapp, Andrew Kirkconnell and Charles Scott. The flowerbearers were Colin Fingland of Wingham and Bert Marsh. Victorian Inn at Stratford on Friday and Saturday. Betty Thompson of Toronto spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, Jim, Sharon and Bob. A number of people from the community attended the Plowing Match near Jarvis the past week. Mr. and Mrs, Carter Kerslake and Craig and Mr. and, Mrs. George, Vivian, Andrew, Janice, Steven and Sandra, all of Staffa, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thompson and Ricki, when they celebrated Ricki's first birthday. Several boys attended the London Lords football game on Sunday in London. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Medd and Kerri were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Medd of Knox United Church anniversary services were held last Sunday with a large attendance of members and friends to mark the occasion, The flowers in the church were placed in memory of the late James B. Jackson, The morning service was in charge of Rev. Robert Clyde, B.A.D.D. of Bervie, The service of song was led by the church organist, Mrs, Norman Wightman. A duet was sung by Misses Nancy Anderson and Betty Moss, "Beside the Still Waters." The choir sang the anthem, "Holy is the Lord." Rev. Robert Clyde chose for his sermon — The Fox and the Flame. The evening service was in charge of the minister, Pastor Alfred Fry. The McMillan family of Goderich supplied special music throughout the service. Rev. Harold Snell, B.A.D,D. of Riverside United Church, London Was the guest speaker and spoke on the theme — Give thanks for Everything. During the service Rev, William Fingland, B.A.D.D. of Niagara Falls presented a colorful Ante Pendium for the pulpit as a Memorial, gift from the Fingland family. He spoke of the early days of the Auburn church and then told the Greek and Latin meaning of the gold letters on the Ante Pendium. Mr. Maurice Bean, clerk of. Session accepted the gift and Pastor Alfred Fry dedicated it with prayer. Rev. Clarence McClenegan of Dungannon pronounced the benediction. A social hour• followed in the Sunday school room of the church. ST. MARK'S ACW The October meeting of St. Mark's Anglican Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. Thomas Lawlor with a good Blyth, Mr. Jim Medd of Grand Valley, Miss Margaret Hummel of Clinton and Angela Flynn. Rhonda, Jeffrey and Scott McMichael of Goderich spent Sunday with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Thompson, and Joan. • A shower was held on Sunday at the home bf Mrs. Elia.Jewitt for Miss Helen Good of Londesboro prior to her marriage. Thirty relatives attended from Woodstock, Lucknow, Auburn and the surrounding area. Mrs. Mande Perrin of London, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Woodruff of St. Davids, and Mr. John Whyte of Oshawa are visiting this week with Mrs, W. L, Whyte, Tom and Mr. Harold Whyte. attendance. The Hostess opened the meeting with the hymn, Come all ye thankful people come. Mrs, Bob Slater read the scripture lesson and prayers were given by Mrs. Donald Cartwright. The missionary theine was taken by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt — a reading from H. Gordon Green on Christian Life yesterday and to-day, A reading ' on Kindly Thoughts was given by Mrs. Thomas Lawlor. Mrs. Ed Davies chose a Thanksgiving message for the topic and gave the recipe for a Scripture Christmas cake. The hymn, "Breathe on me breath of God" was sung. The hymns were the birthday hymns for Mrs, John Daer and Mrs. Ed Davies. The hostess thanked all who had taken part and the president, Mrs. Donald Cartwright presided for the business meeting. The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. John Daer. The financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. The roll call was answered by a Bible verse containing the word, Thanksgiving. The travelling apron received a penny for each letter in Offering First Fruits, The correspondence was read dealing with several Deanery meetings, one in Fordwich on Oct. 25. Plans were completed for the St. Mark's dinner to be served in the hall, on October 27th. There is also going to be a bazaar table, The President closed the meeting with prayer and a successful auction was held. A dainty lunch was served by Mrs. Thomas Lawlor assisted by Mrs, Ed Davies. Mr. and Mrs. William H. Coates of Flint Michigan, Mrs. province At the 12th annual Western Ontario Provincial Assembly of Canadian Foresters, held at the Victorian inn, Stratford, Saturday, October 16 Bro. Robert Jewell of Court Benmiller No. 86 was honored with a plaque naming him Forester of the Year. B r o tre`k "1'':C .R. received this award in recognition of his outstanding work in the local lodge and community. Bro. Jewell was also named Curling Director for Ontario. Court Benmiller won the privilege of hosting the Dominion Curling Playoffs in 1973, which will be held at the Maitland Country Club in Goderich. The 1977 Playoffs will be in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. At the banquet in the evening which was attended by 300 Foresters and guests, over $2,000 was donated by Courts and District Councils in Western Ontario to the Cancer Research Fund. Court Activity award which was presented by High Chief Ranger Bro. Earl Parsons of London, went to Court Valentine, Granton. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Bro. Rev. Stan MacDonald, Kinburn, a'id guest speaker was Bruce McCall, Brussels.
