I am convinced that the facilities can be put to good use If we pursue co-operative solutions through consultation at the federal, provincial and municipal levels. I have consistently urged this approach since 1968, before the deactivation of Clinton was announced. Over the past three years, however, the federal government has not agreed to one single meeting toward this end. As a matter of record, Crown Assets did not consult the province about its interest in Monday and is hopeful that three or four boys from Goderich and Blyth district will be out at the next practices, Booster tickets at $2.00 each will be on sale this week. Holders of tickets will have a chance on a lucky draw at each home game and one buyer will receive a season's pass to all home games, Clinton until March of this year, after our budget had been established and our programs finalized, In this connection, however, my recent offer to Huron County Council and to the federal government still stands: .I am fully prepared to participate in tri-level discussions to determine the best approach to reactivation of Clinton as a renewed economic impetus In the community, I can pursue vigorously the interest that has been expressed by some of our provincial departments. But I must have co-Operation and assistance from the other levels of goventneet. Carroll Continued from Page 5 government policies which have done little to promote industrial research and the development of the Canadian potential in our economy. We are concerned about the employment crisis and the lack of solutions offered by the government We propose a complex plan of economic and social planning coupled with regional development schemes to meet the following objectives: a. to meet the needs of our citizens and raise their standard of living, b. to produce steady and continuous growth to achieve and maintain full employment. c. to conserve and replenish our great natural wealth, d. to distribute the wealth of Ontario in a way that will assure every individual equal opportunity. e, to achieve a just and rational balance in the allocation of wealth between the public and the private sector. to foster Canadian independence by developing a strong and diversified economy. The guiding principle in our economic planning is that the freedom of the individual is paramount. What is the biggest single problem facing the people of Huron? We are a rural economy, dotted with small points of colleen Howatt had the best single of 284 and Delores Hart the top tripie,of 675, Bruce Collins had a 301 single and 707 triple in bowling for the JOOF and Rebekali's League, Doug Jones had the beet average of 218, Anne .COIclotigh had the high ladies single of 288, Val Marriage the best triple of 601 and Kaye Harris the best average of 193, Team standings show the Spark Plugs on top with seven followed by Bill's Blisters, five; Hot • Shots, five; Margie's Muttons, five; Cheerful Charlies, two; Bill's Bunyans, two; Sunken Six, two and Choke-Ups, none. Employment opportunities, be they rural or urban, are a problem. Evidence for this is to be found in the continuous out-migration of young people from our County. The solutions are twofold: First, a strengthening of the farm community and second, the development of existing industry coupled with the planned and even distribution of secondary industries in the Towns and urbanized areas. I believe the policy of the New Democratic government as far as industrial decentralization goes would help to solve this very difficult problem. Herein lies the solution to providing more opportunities for youth in Huron. 1 have also contended that opportunities for post-secondary education in Huron be explored. I know we have the Agricultural College at Huron Park, but Community College services have merit, as well. Any other topic of your choice; The New Democratic Party is relatively new in Huron. It is not new in Ontario and other parts of Canada. The governments of' Manitoba and Saskatchewan have proven that the NDP is a viable alternative. My concern here is that many of our citizens will not vote on October 21; (a) because they will not vote Conservative or Liberal and (b) because they are suspicious about us. The suspicions have been bred by either Misinformation or lack of it, We are working our hardest to place our ideas before the people, We have no desire to argue with them, but we do desire their objective examination of these ideas. BY BARBARA RUDD Grade 12 and 13 students at C.H.S.S. had an introduction to politics last Thursday afternoon when the Hon. Charles MacNaughton took part in a bear-pit session at the school. The questions centered around issues which are becoming well-known to Huron county; the pollution at Listowel, the conservation area to be created at Hullett, the lack of job opportunities etc. The students seemed interested in his answers, although judging by conversation, some thought Mr. MaeNaughton to be a little evasive, The session was ended by Ron Graham, Student Council President, and Mr. MacNaughton Reporters needed The News-Record is looking for reporters of high school and elementary school activities.
