On May 5, at Building 107,
the Fly Up was a success with
four Brownies being "flown up"
to Guides.
The Brownies that were flown
up were: Nicky Page, Judy
Hatch, Cindy Green, and Diane
Harper.
Both the 2nd and 3rd Clinton
CFB Brownie Packs attended.
Some parents also came to
watch the Fly Up.
The leaders present for the
ceremony were: Mrs. Price, Mrs.
Lawson, Mrs. Gorman, Mrs.
Austin, Mrs. McPherson, Mrs.
Vallaster and Mrs. Cheyne.

The School Spring Concert
was held on May 6, beginning at
1:30 p.m., with parents invited
to attend.
The program opened with "0
Canada", after which Mr.
Harland welcomed the visitors.
The first item, "My Country"
performed by a group consisting
of students from Grades five to
eight, was a series of songs and
poems, expressing the affection
and gratitude felt toward our
country. The theme song,
"Something To Sing About",
recurred frequently. Poems
included "This Canada Of
Ours", with individual parts
taken by Cathy Page, Mona
Harper, Barbara Lawson, and
Mary Anne Cummings; the
sonnet "Quebec", recited by
Andre Racine; "The Birthright",
by the Grade eight girls; and the
"Wolf Cry", by Mike Wardell.
Karen Belliveau quoted passages
on Canada from Bruce
Hutchinson's story "My
Country". The final selection of
this series was a two-part
rendition of the song "They All
Call It Canada".
The second item was a series
of songs and dances, with
actions, put on by Kindergarten,
and directed by Mrs. M. Dykstra.
Next were three historical
plays done by the Grade seven
pupils, and some of the Grade
eights as well.
The first play was "Trouble In
Acadia", done by, Paul Arnott as
Captain, Andre Racine and
Lawrence Smith as soldiers, and
Joanne Price as narrator.
The second play was "LaSalle
On The Mississippi'., with
Marlene Gerow as LaSalle, and
Christine Ingram, Linda
Motomura, Kim Nichols, and
Susan Pennimpede as Settlers,
Bob Kingsley was narrator.
"The Boston Tea Party" was
acted out by Shelly Schwab as
narrator, Charles Belliveau as
Captain, Paul Arnott as Guard,
and Andre Racine, Lawrence
Smith and Brian Thiessen as
Bostonians disguised as Indians.
The item put on by Grade
four, was an Introduction to the
Orchestra, with pictures and a
brief explanation of each
instrument. The String family
instruments were narrated by
Judy Hatch, Dianne Harper,
Debbie Austin, and Cathy
Blanchard; the Percussion
instruments by John Patterson,
Dawn Hunter, and Melanie
Hack; the Brass family by Nicki
Page, Lana Exley, Leonard
Kingsley, Melanie Hack, and

Mr. MacAuley, Mr. Page, Mr.
Belliveau, Mr. Motomura,
Andrea Lynn, Debbie Robinson,
Debbie Bruce, Ed Lynn, and
Ray Gerow demonstrated
various instruments as they were
introduced. Then the class sang
"Sesame Street", accompanied
by the various instrumentalists.
Grades one, two, and three
presented an operetta, "Mr.
MacGregor's Garden", with
Grade one taking the part of
rabbits, Grade two the birds, and
Grade three the gardeners.
Individual parts were taken by
Theresa Ingram as Mother
Rabbit; Flopsy, Marcie Brolund;
Mopsy, Curtis Greig; Cottontail,
John Lawson; and Peter Rabbit,
Michael Belliveau. Costumed
birds were: Jimmy Gorman, Kim
Greig, Debbie, Sebela, and
Michael Legros. Gardeners were:
Joey Hartford, Mark Motomura,
Neil Hatch, and Gerald Parent.
The majorettes, under the
direction of Miss L. Stirling,
performed to the tune of
"Raindrops Keep Falling On My
Head". The majorettes were:
Joanne Price, Patsy Schwab,
Shelly Schwab, Carol Lince, and
Dale Johnston.
The Grade five class did a
series of songs, led by Mrs. M.
McCurdy.
A French presentation of
"Three Little Pigs", directed by
Mrs. L. Henry, was done by the
Grades seven and eight girls.
Mother was Krista MacAuley,
and the three little pigs were
Shelly Schwab, Christine Ingram
and Susan Pennimpede. The
wolf was played by Marlene
Gerow. Other characters in the
play were taken by Debbie

The final chorus group
consisted of volunteer singers
from Grades four to eight, who
sang "I'll Walk With God" from
the operetta "Student Prince",
in two and four part harmony,
and "Till We Meet Again" in two
part harmony, with words
adapted to the closing of the
Base,
The program closed with
"God Save The Queen".
On Tuesday evening, .May 11
the Explorer Girls of Ontario
Street United Church held their
closing meeting for the. year.
About 65 guest's were present to
enjoy the concert which the 70's
girls presented.
Marilyn Mair welcomed the
guests to the program. Sylvia
Forbes gave the welcome
recitation. Piano solos were
played by Jane Symons, Ruth
Wonfor, Marilyn Mair and Sheila
Arnston. Tracy Colquhoun and
Jackie Zwaan each recited short
verses.
Melodie Howse sang a solo. A
recitation "Why?" was given by
Jeanette Dutot, Kelly
Colquhoun, Brenda Ball, Nancy
Falconer and Laurel Lavis. The
senior girls recited a poem,
"Mothers Are For."
The girls then formed a choir
and sang several mission songs.
The closing number on the
program was a play entitled
"Aunt Emmy and the Monkey"
in which all the girls took part.
At the graduation service six
girls graduated from Explorers
and were presented with
graduation certificates,
bookmarks and a small book
"This is My Father's World."
The girls who graduated were
Sheila Arnston, Lorie Blair,
Sharon Irwin, Marilyn Mair, Jane
Symons and Ruth Wonfor. Mr.
Wonfor spoke briefly to the girls
at the close of the Graduation
Service.
During the intermission the
guests had an opportunity to
view the display of work done
by the girls during the year.
Lorie Blair thanked everyone for
coming and for helping to make
the evening so successful. A
Nineteen members of the
Magic Circle met in Mrs. G.
Beattie's summer home at
Bayfield on May 12.
Mrs. Gretta Nediger welcomed
the members and extended a
special welcome to Mrs. McKeil
who had been away all winter.
Mrs. Nediger read a poem "Oh
It's Been A Lovely Day."
Minutes were read by Mrs.
Bessie Steep. The treasurer's
report was read by Miss Billie
Stewart. Visiting convener Mrs.
Jean Currie reported 30 hospital
calls and 10 home calls had been
made by members during the
past month. It was decided to
postpone the noon luncheon
until fall and instead each
member would contribute
$5.00. The ladies agreed to make
sandwiches for a special order in
July.
Devotions were taken by Mrs.
Louella Ostrom and Mrs.
Margaret Cole.
Mrs. Marjorie Porter
conducted an auction of
wrapped gifts brought by the
members. Members in charge of
the June meeting are Marian
Andrews, Mabel Price, Helen
Bartliff and Helen Davies.
A delicious lunch was served,
then Mrs. Porter thanked the
hostess for entertaining the
group in her lovely home.

Mrs. W. Colclough, the
president of the Huronview
Auxiliary, opened the meeting
with the Lord's Prayer,
Mrs. G. Peck read the minutes
of the last meeting, In the
absence of Mrs. M. Robinson the
treasurer's report was given by
Mrs. W. Colclottgh,
Mrs. A. McGregor gave a
report of the work in the craft
room. A report on the regional
conference at Dundas was given
by Mrs. W. Colclough. The
Senior Citizens week will be held
June 20.26. •
The next meeting will be June
14 at 2 p.m. Members please
note change of day and time.
The meeting closed with God
Save the Queen. Mrs. K. Webster
convened the lunch.
