BILLY GRAHAM Aubu* rn ACW meets We divided into patrols when we met on Monday. We had a game called Streets and Alleys. Our leaders told us about Lord Baden Powell because it is Thinking Day. We were told about Guides in foreign countries and about how Guides started in Canada. We had cake and kool-aid for a little treat for Thinking Day. Nancy Newland, Donna Cole, Terry Flowers, Marilynn Van Alteena, Katey Walden, Bonnie Van Reisen and Debbie Switzer flew up to Guides from Brownies. Brenda Bell walked up. Mr. Black presented compasses to each new Guide. The mothers had tea and cookies and the girls had cookies. We had campfire. BY MICHELLE SMITH CINDY TAIT MARYILN VAN ALTENA Ted Dunne was re-elected President of the Bayfield Agricultural society at the group's annual meeting held on February 18. The meeting had been scheduled for January 27, but had to be postponed because of the major snowstorm. Robert Stirling, Secretary Treasurer for the last 10 years tendered his resignation, It was accepted with regret. The President and his First Vice-PreSident, Everrett Meliwain, were appointed to designate a sticcessor, Torn Penhale was named Second Vice-President and the same board of directors as last year was returned for the 1971 term, we had campfire, We sang songs for campfire and a skit. Then we had taps and went home. BY PEGGY JONES The Brownies met at the school on Wednesday night. We played some games. One of the games was called Struck Miss Susie. We sang some songs. It was the tweenies enrolment day. They each bad a brown suit of their own. Lunch was served to the tweenies mothers, After that we had show and tell. I brought some poems for show and tell. This is what they are: Brownies in Clinton, Wear a brown uniform, The pencils on their sides, Looks like a unicorn horn. Reports on the committees of the 1970 Fair were heard and the decision was made to hold this year's Fair on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10 — 11. The financial statement showed a balance of $65.00. A Striking Committee, comprised of the Past President, Mr. Dunn, Mr. Mawain and Mr. Penhale, was named to bring in a list of committees and report to the next meeting teriatively set for March 24. Bayfield Reeve Edward Oddliefson and Clerk Gordon Graham reported that there were a number of lbts on the Fair grounds which had never been properly registered and that titles and deeds had now been properly registered in the name of the society. The Kippen UCW met at the Manse, Brucefield, for their February meeting on Thursday, February 18 at 8:15 p.m. After opening the meeting, the President, Mrs. Keith Lovell, called on Mrs. David Turner to conduct the Worship Period which centered around the theme "The Theological Implications of Hunger in the World". The problems of hunger and poverty have been present since Old Testament Days. We have the means to feed all the world but, in our hearts, we have not the willingness to share. Mrs. Edison McLean presented the Minutes of the January Meeting. Twenty-three members answered the Roll Call with Valentine poems and anecdotes. Acknowledgements for kindnesses extended by the group, from Mrs. Dickert, Mrs. McLellan and Mrs. J. Cooper, were read. Mrs. E. Kyle reported that the visiting committee had made six calls. Mrs. Kyle also presented the Treasurer's Report in the absence of Mrs. McLellan. A motion to increase the allocation for 1971 was presented and adopted. An account of the recent Huron-Perth Presbyterial was presented by Mrs. Bert Faber. Mrs. Peter DeWys arranged for a special programme number, The Anglican Church WoMen of St, Mark's Church held their February meeting at the home of Mrs, Brooks. There was a good attendance. • Mrs. Brooks was in charge of the meeting which opened with a hymn, with Mrs. Gordon Taylor as pianist. After a prayer by Mrs. Brooks, she took for her scripture lessoe the sermon on the mount. The topic was taken by Mrs. Donald Cartwright "In a Canadian Snowstorm", and the missionary theme, "Through the Diocese by Canoe and Snowshoe" was given by Mrs. John Daer, Mrs. Gordon Taylor read a letter from Rev. Locke, formerly of Fort George, and now of Matheson, Ontario sending season's greetings to the A.C.W. members and telling about the activities at Matheson. Mrs, Taylor also read a recent letter from Mrs. Robert Meally in Ireland. Auburn 2, 4-H club met at the home of the leader, Mrs. Donald Haines. She opened the meeting and presided for the election of officers. President, Trudy Meehan; vice-president, Heather Elliott; secretary, Lorraine Chameny; press reporter, Doris Naylor. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt outlined the requirements of the club and registered the girls. Mrs. William Empey demonstrated the sewing box and showed fabrics and colours. Mrs. Haines spoke on style and the different fabrics for the girls to wear. The next meeting will be held on Saturday morning. The girls named their club, "Fashion Fussies". Auburn No. 1 Club held its The February meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute was held in the Community Memorial Hall with the president, Mrs. Leonard Archambault in charge. „. iThe minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by Mrs. Gordon Chamney, assistant secretary-treasurer. She also presented the financial statement. The card report was given by Mrs. Robert Phillips in the absence of the card secretary, Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnen. Mrs. James Towe introduced her husband, Mr. Towe who was the guest speaker of the afternoon. He spoke on "Goats Miss Frances Houston spent the weekend in London with Mr, and Mrs. Jack Macintosh and family. Mr, and Mrs. Earl Raithby of Goderich visited last Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raithby and John Raithby. Mrs. Sam Daer is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Her friends -wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock, Mrs. Graham McNee of Dungannon, Mrs. Andrew Straughan of Goderich and Mrs, Wilfred Colciough of Clinton attended a luncheon meeting of the four W.I. Districts at the home of the Board Director, Mrs. Norman Coulthard, RR 2, St. Pettis, last Thursday. The annual meeting of the Auburn Community Memorial hall was held in the hall last Tuesday night with the chairman Ted Mills in charge. The minutes Were accepted as read by the secretary-treasurer Mrs, Gordon Taylor. The representatives present were Ted Mills, West Wawanosh; James McPhee, Colborne Township; James Glousher, Village of Auburn; Joe Hunking, thillett Township; Reeve Hugh Flynn, Hullett Township; arid Mrs. Archambault, president of the Auburn W.I, Gerald McDowell representative of East Wawatiosh was absent. Several interested citizens were also present, William J. Craig was hired again ,as 'caretaker and Mrs. Taylor as secretary treasurer. Plans were made to hold A St. Patrick's dance March 19; runiniage sale, May 8; 'chicken barbecue, July 31; and a Hallowe'en 'costume dance, October 29. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Moss and Ir. and Mrs. Julien Delbergne pent the weekend with Mr. and Irs, Wayne Johnston in lontreal. Mrs. Brooks thanked all for taking part in the meeting and the president, Mrs. Donald Cartwright took 'charge of the business portion, of the meeting. Following an auction, a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Brooks. meeting at the home of Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. The leader, Mrs. Frank Raithby outlined club members' requirements for the spring project, Separates for Summer, Miss Frances Houston registered the girls and assisted in style demonstration. The sewing box contents were demonstrated and patterns and materials were discussed. The election of officers took place: President, Doreen McClinchey; vice-president, Wanda Plaetzer; secretary, Joanne Hickey; and press reporter, Sheron Collins. The girls named their club The Kotton Kandies, Plans were made to hold the next meeting on March-1, at 7 p.m. and Goat Keeping". Miss Lorraine Chamney sang a solo accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Gordon Chamney. The report of the Tweedsmuir History book for the past year was read by the curator, Mrs. Gordon Taylor and Mrs. Robert Phillips, a member of the comm ittee. The roll call, "I remember" was answered by all members and was very interesting, Lunch was served by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer, Mrs. Gordon Chamney and Mrs. James Towe. The prize for the lucky cup went to Mrs. Elliott and wedding anniversary nearest Valentine Day went to Mrs. Roy Daer. John Hamilton and Miss Junia Corcoran of Toronto spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and. Mrs. Ben Hamilton. Mrs. Arnold Craig is a patient iri Wingham Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery, Neighbours of Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Hallam gathered for a farewell party recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Johnston. They presented them with gifts. Congratulations to Miss Delores Neves, a Grade 8 student at St. Joseph's Separate School, Kingsbridge who took top Mews last Friday in the elementary level Huron County Separate School Public Speaking Finals.
