Middleton.
The annual Vestry and
Congregational business meeting
of St, James Anglican Church,
Middleton, met Tuesday evening
January 12 at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Middleton,
Also present were Mr, and Mrs.
Edward Wise, Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Middleton, Mr, and Mrs.
Ray Wise, Mr. and Mrs. Dean
Aldwinkle, Mr. John Deevea,
Mr, Edward Deeves, Mrs. Keith
Miller, Mr. John Smith and the
Rector,, the Rev. E. J, B.
Harrison,
Mr. Harrison opened the
meeting with prayer and
Scripture reading. Mrs. Edward
Wise read very detailed minutes
of the previous annual meeting.
There were no Board of
Management meetings during the
year.
The Rector's Report was a
highlight of the evening,
touching on every aspect of the
Church's life. He expressed
pleasure that the spiritual morale
of the parish is at a high level,
due to the loyal support of most
of the congregation.
"Every year the passing of
time brings its changes", stated
Mr. Harrison, "and this year
1970 took from us two of our
most faithful workers in the
person of Mrs. David Deeves, the
mother of our rector's..-warden,
and at the year's end, Mr. Fred
Middleton 'the dearly beloved
friend and patriarch of rhis,=old
parish of St. James, Middleton,'
now in it's 99th year of
existence." The Middleton
family have made a generous
financial gift to our parish for a
suitable memorial to the late
Fred Middleton.
Mr. Harrison expressed his
thanks to the Wardens, John
Deeves and John Smith for full
co-operation during the year;
appreciation too to that
important officer, the Treasurer,
Mr. Edward Wise; to the organist
Mrs. Joseph Storey and choir; to
the A.C.W. president and
officers; the Sunday School
Superintendent, Mrs. Don
Middleton and her teaching
staff, and special thanks to Mrs.
Fred Middleton for her loyal
service and care of the Holy
Sacramental altar; to Mrs.
Stewart Middleton for full and
impartial press coverage; to Mr.
Ray Wise, as chairman of the
Sidesmen,to the auditors and to
the Hudies for their care of the
grounds.
mr: Harrison stated that the

anniversary and he considered it
advisable at this stage to set up a
special committee for the
purpose of initiating plans for
this great milestone. The
committee appointed includes
the Wardens, Mrs. Edward Wise,
Mrs. Donald Middleton and Mrs,
Stewart Middleton,
t Among the church's ritual
statistics cited by Mr. Harrison
were one baptism, one marriage,
two burials and seven persons
confirmed, all of this parish. The
average' church attendance was
36.
Mr. John Deeves, the rector's
warden thanked Mr, Harrison
and the AW. for the utmost
service, The people's warden,
Mr. John Smith, added his
sincere expression of thanks to
ail did the treasurer, Mr.
EdWardWise, who reported the
budget paid in full and a healthy
balance on hand.
Mrs, Don Middleton gave the
A.C.W. report and Mrs. Ray Wise
that of the Sunday School. The
auditors,Mr. and Mrs. Dean
Aldwinckle reported the 'books
shipshape.
A special note from Mrs. Fred
Middleton thanked all those who
helped at their time of
bereavement.
Mr. Harrison, who acted as
chairman for the meeting,
appointed Mrs. Keith Miller and
Mr. Edward Deeves to act as
scrutineers for the election of
officers for the parish of St,
James Church, Middleton for the
year 1971 as follows: Rector's
Warden, Mr. John Deeves;
People's Warden, Mr. John W.
Smith; Members of the Board of
A good number of Clinton
Snowmobile Club members and
their families went on a safari
Sunday afternoon, January 10,
travelling to Stanley township to
the Winter "Chalet" (Love's
Paradise) owned by Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Love and family. While
there, the children enjoyed
sleigh riding and tobogganing.
The group gathered around a
cozy marifire for lunch.
On Sunday, January 17, the
club members snowitobilecl to
hayfield where they were met
by Mr, Lloyd Westlake.„ who
escorted them through many
scenic areas,
After the trail drive, Mr. and
Mrs. Westlake graciously opened
their home and a delicious lunch
was enjoyed by Mt

Mr. John Deeves moved a
note of thanks to Mr. and Mrs.
Stewart Middleton for a place of
meeting. Mr. Harrison closed
with the Benediction, The ladies
served lunch and a social hour
was enjoyed.

The A,C.W. of St. James,
Middleton, met Thursday
evening January 14 at the home
of Mrs. Don Middleton. There
were eight members and the
Rector, the Rev. E. J. B.
Harrison, present. The President,
Mrs. Edward Wise, opened with
a New Year's poem, "Please,
please, more Time." Year end
reports and ends of business
were tidied up. Mrs, Dutot's
financial report showed a
healthy balance,
Mr. Harrison conducted the
service of the Installation of
Officers. In beginning a third
year as President, Mrs. Wise
asked the members, "Small in
numbers, to continue the fullest
possible co-operation for the
good of the Unit". She also read
a poem entitled "Beginning, the
hardest job of all".
Mr. Harrison conducted the
Devotions and meditation
session, which also followed the
New Year's theme. Mrs. Keith
Miller gave the Secretary's report
and the roll call was answered by
the payment of membership
fees.
A note was received from Mrs.
Fred Middleton and family,
thanking the A.C.W. for serving
lunch after husband's funeral
and for all their expressions of
sympathy.
Mrs. John Smith also thanked
the unit for a lovely floral
arrangement in a cup and saucer,
which was sent to her, while a
patient &the toderich
Mrs, Wise stated that as all the
women of the parish are now
automatically members of the
A.C.W., they should be inforthed
that a warm welcome awaits
them at our meetings. "In a
sn'eali parish everyone has to
count."
Ways and means of boosting
the budget were discussed. It
was decided to continue the
Baking Sale money and the
birthday box.
Mrs. Don Middleton kindly
offered her home for a fun and
games "Church Family Night",
to be held Friday evening,
January 27, This party, involving
everyone, should get the whole
St. James Church congregation
off to a good start for the New
Year.

Mrs. Fred Middleton was the
guest last week of her cousin,

Young people's Church group
held a successful skating party
last Tuesday evening at Stewart
Middletons' park and lake.
In spite of hear zero weather
around 35 attended,
A popular picnic and boating
place in summer, this park is a
winter sports meeting place for
young and not so young folks.
