Miss Margaret McNaughton, of London, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lome McNaughton. Miss Helen Moir, of London, visited over the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. L. Baynham and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Moir. ’ Reeve A. W. Kerslake was in Goderich last week attending the County Council meeting. Mr, Clarence McNaughton left on Monday for an extended trip to Western Canada. Mr, Harold Bell, who recently underwent an appendectomy in St. Joseph’s Hospital, was able to return home. Presentation A very enjoyable time was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Pepper on Wed­ nesday evening when the neigh­ bours gathered to honour them prior to their departure to re­ side in Hensail. The evening was spent in playing progressive eu­ chre, the winners being as fol­ lows: Ladies’ first, Mrs. Louis Clark Jr.; consolation, Mrs. J. Pepper; g e n t s’ first, Stewart Pepper; consolation, Gerald Bell. Following the euchre, Mr. and Mrs. Pepper were presented with an. end table and lamp by Mr. Melvin Traquair. Mr. Geo. Mr. Will Hodge, of Mount Pleasant, was guest speaker at Sunday school Sunday morning and spoke on temperance. Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Switzer of St. Marys visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Swit­ zer. Miss Donna Dickinson, of St. Marys, spent the week-end with Miss Merle Hazlewood, Mrs. W. J. Wilson of London spent the week-end with her brother, Mr. Harry Rodd and Mrs. Rodd. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wray Sweitzer, of Shipka. Miss Winnie Gray spent the week-end with her parents at Mitchell. Mrs. (Rev.) T. G. Wanless and family spent a few days with Mrs. Adams, of Toronto. Bazaar The annual W.A. bazaar was held in the Orange Hall on Fri­ day evening with a good crowd in attendance. A good program was given and lunch was served. Proceeds were $196.00. Y.P.U. The regular meeting of the Y.P.U. was held Sunday evening­ in the church with twenty-one present. The meeting was in charge of the missionary com­ mittee — Phyllis Wheeler and Ruth Hazlewood. Mrs. Earl Hamilton enter­ tained a number of ladies to a quilting on Wednesday last. Russell Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lee, had the mis­ fortune to fall at school one day last week, breaking his collar bone. Mrs. Gordon Scott held a shower on Thursday afternoon last in honour of Miss Laurine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Dixon. Mrs. Wes Watson read the address and Mrs. Earl Pic­ kering and Miss Audrey Dixon presented the gifts. Laurine thanked the ladies for their gifts in a few well chosen words. All sang “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow”, after whicfh lunch was served. Those who attended the fu­ neral of the late Moses Mawson of Parkhill on Thursday last were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Sholdice, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Morley and Mr. and Mrs. Lin Craven. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Trevethick, Grace and Ruth, visited .with Mr. and Mrs. Giles Thompson, of Lieury, on Bunday evening last. We are sorry to report at the time of writing that Miss Betty Ellwood has been admitted to St, Joseph’s Hospital, London. We all hope for a speedy re­ covery. Public Speaking Contest McGillivray School Area held its public speaking contest in West McGillivray Hall on Wed­ nesday evening, November 17, There were eleven entries, Shir­ ley Donaldson, of S.S. 7 taking first prize for the girls, and Bruce Lockhart, S.S. 11, taking first prize for the boys. Meeting The Women’s Institute held the November meeting on the evening of November 17 .with a large attendance. The president, Mrs. H. Schenk presided and roll call was responded to with a laundry hint. It was decided to donate ten dollars to Child­ ren’s hospital, also toys and H. S. Hamilton motored to' Belmore on Satur­ day last and attended the wed­ ding of Miss Audrey Hunkin their neice. Little Miss Worden was a pretty little ring bearer. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Laing are attending the Royal Fair for a few days at Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ramsay have taken the contract for the Rural Route. They will deliver south of the village. Mr, David Gardiner’s new home north of the main street in the village is nearing comple­ tion and presents a very nice appearance. They will soon b< able to move into it. Mrs. 'Grace Scott and Ken Me- Kellar have both been re-touch­ ing their homes with fresh coats of paint which adds very much to the appearance of the build­ ings. books. Mrs. Lloyd Lamport gave a very in­ teresting report of the W.I. Convention held recently in London. Mrs. Nelson Schenk gave a demonstration, on rug making and ,Miss Joyce Cham­ bers favoured with a vocal solo. Mrs. L. England gave a paper on “Food Management.” Mrs. L. Hodge joined the Society. Lunch was served by the com­ mittee in charge comprising Mrs. L. Gaiser, Mrs. L. Lamport, Mrs. L, England .and Mrs. W. Weber. Appreciation was expres­ sed by Mrs. Wm. Gaiser and Mrs. M. Beaver.
