Colts play home Friday
The young Colt intermediate
ball club's lost two tough games
to experienced players recently.
On Sunday, June 22, Archie
Pickett, pitching his final game
of the season, lost to Walkerton
by 6-5. Walkerton scored two
runs in the second, fourth and
seventh innings, Pickett gave up
only four hits, but costly
fielding errors set up Walkerton's
runs.
Clinton's batters connected
for 11 hits, but left 15 men on
bases. Scoring for Clinton were
Doc Miller (2), Bob Livermore,
Hans Leppington and Ron
McKay.
Clinton's powerful hitting
brought home 11 runs in the
11-6 win over Hensall on June
26. Clinton's only left-hander,
Brad Dutot, threw a five -hitter
and had little problem until the
seventh inning when Hansall
scored four runs. Jim Livermore
led the way with three runs. Bob
Livermore tallied twice and
scoring once each were Don
Bartliff, Laurie Colquhoun, Paul
Bartliff, Ron McKay, Rick
Fremlin and Brad Dutot.
Pickett made hit pitching
record 1-1 in his win over St.
Mary's on July 2. Four runs in
the fourth and two each in the
sixth and seventh earned Clinton
the 8.5 win. Cam Colquhoun's
hot bat belted out a single and a
double to lead the team.
Cam Colquhoun and Ed Daer
scored two, while singles were
scored by Doc Miller, Bob
Livermore, Don Bartliff and
Butch Fleet. Clinton's big

Events marking the
province -wide Conservation
Week will be , staged in „ the
Ausable River watershed on July
13 and July 20. Other
conservation authorities slated
special events last week. The
Maitland authority held no
major programs.
On Sunday, at 1 p.m. at the
new beach area on the Parkhill
Dam reservoir, members of the
London Canoe Club will
demonstrate canoeing skills and
safety practices. Then a two-mile
race for novice teams will be
held on the reservoir.
The public is invited to view
the Parkhill Conservation Area,
the Ausable River Conservation
Authority's newest project and
one still in the early stages of
development.
The following Sunday, July.
20, again at 1 p,m., the
Southwestern Ontario Retriever
Training Club Field Trials will be
held at the Morrison Dam
Conservation Area, 1,25 miles
east of Exeter. This event will be
staged in the upstream portion
of the reservoir. Spectators
interested in the training ,of
retrievers• are invited to attend
and are assured of an excellent
display.
The same day, and at the
same time, the first annual Great
Ausable Canoe Race will begin
at 1 p.m. sharp at Lee Jennison's
gravel pit (entrance west of
highway 21, immediately south
of Whispering Pines Motel),

The ninth reunion of the St.
Luke's Association of Canadian
Veterans' 13andsmen will be held
in Hamilton at the Sheratoh
Connaught Hotel on Civic
Holiday Weekend, August 2-4.
Any bandsmen who were in
any way connected With the
armed services (Navy, Ariny and
.Alt rotce pipes, concert parties)
are welcome at the event. Per

catcher, Hans Leppington, will
be out of action for at least
three weeks after injuring his
arm in an auto accident.
Playing under the newly
installed lights at Mitchell on
Monday evening, the home club
scored a hotly disputed run in
the bottom of the ninth to tie
the score 10-10, then the next
batter belted out a single,
scoring the winning run by Bob
Zimmer. Home runs by Doc
Miller and Little Joe Livermore
in the third inning gave Clinton
an early 8.1 lead. Pat Langille
was Clinton's starting pitcher.
Ed Daer relieved him in the
second and Daer blanked
Mitchell for the second and third
innings, He gave up one run in
the fourth, two in the fifth and
lone runs in the sixth and
seventh.
Pickett started out the eighth
inning and gave up three runs
before Daer was brought back in
to pitch and he retired the side.
Both clubs connected for 10
hits with Mitchell collecting
theirs late in the game. Brad
Dutot and Bob Livermore scored
two, Doc Miller, Laurie
Colquhoun, Ed Daer and Jim
Livermore tallied one apiece.
The Colts next, two ball
games will be played in Clinton.
Their opposition last night, in a
game played after presstime, was
Thorndale. On Friday at 6:30
p.m. the Colts meet the 1968
Ontario D. champions from
Dashwood and they play Zurich
on Monday, July 14,
Yanks champs
in town league
Pee Wee play
The Pee Wee town league
baseball finals took place last
Thursday with the Yankees,
coached by Bert Clifford,'
winning two straight from the
Red Sox to take the
championship. The games had
identical scores of 20-4.
In the first game, the Yankees
were led by P. Wheeler who had
two home runs and a single. Ray
Burns and Steve Cook were each
credited with two hits.
The Clinton Ponies now have
a 3 and 2 record, after losing
two straight games, Their first
defeat after three straight wins
came at the hands of the Pee
Wees from Goderich.
In a close game — until the
last inning — the Ponies lost
16.12, R. Welch, G. Butler, D. '
MacDonald and D. Clynick all
had home runs in the third I
inning. G. Butler led a perfect
day with four singles to go with
his home run. R. Welch also
tallied two doubles.
The Ponies' second defeat
was a 7-3 loss to Listowel.1
Donnie MacDonald struck out
11 batters while losing his first
game after three victories, The
only hits Clinton got were in the
bottom half of the seventh when
they tried to come from behind,
but fell short in the rally.

Youths condition critical
Daniel Baker, 17, of 262
Regent Street, remains in critidai
condition in the intensive care
unit at St. .Joseph's Hospital,
London, today, 11 days after he
was injured ins one-caraccident
on l itchigami Road in Goderich
Township.;
Baker and three ether youths
were in a car that went out of
control, plunged 15 feet down a
bank and slammed into a tree in
the early hours of June 29.
John Harrison, also 17, 104
Victoria Street, is .listed in fair
cpndition in the same Londgtl
hospital and Wayne Draper, 17,
of 205 Britannia .Road, will be
released from Victpra hospital,
London, some time in the near
future according to hospital
