WALKERBURN CLU$
The Walkerburn Club held
their monthly meeting at the
home of Mrs. Stewart Ament
with a good attendance. The
president, Mrs. Ted Hunking,
was in charge of the meeting..
The minutes of the previous
meeting were accepted as read
by the secretary, Mrs. Elliott
Papp. The roll call was answered
by the paying of fees. The draw
prize, donated by Mrs. Guy
Cunningham, was won by Mrs.
Leonard Archambault. A
discussion took place about
holding a family get-together
and it was decided to hold it the
last Sunday in July if possible.
The election of officers was
to take place, but the slate was
not completed so this will be
finished at the August meeting.
Piano solos were played by
Vaughan and Donna Hunking
and . were much enjoyed. The
president invited the members to
her home for the August
meeting. Lunch was served by
the hostess, assisted by Mrs.
Lloyd Penfound and Mrs.
Carmen Gross.
BRIDAL SHOWER
Pink, blue ' and yellow
streamers and flowers decorated
the Sunday school room of-,
Knox United Church when Miss
Patsy Millian of London was
honored with a bridal shower
prior to her marriage this month.
Mrs. John Armstrong was
master of ceremonies and
'presided for the program. A
sing -song was led by Mrs. Robert
J. Philips accompanied on the
piano by Miss Nancy Anderson.
Miss Betty Moss pinned a
corsage on the bride-to-be and
Mrs. Ron Beecroft pinned a
corsage on her mother, Mrs.
Charles Merrill. Both were
escorted to the decorated chairs
on the platform.
Mrs. Wes Bradnock read an
address of congratulations to
Miss Millian and gifts were
carried in by Sherry Plaetzer,
Marie Plunkett, Shelley Grange,
Jennifer Grange, Doreen
McClinchey and Lorraine
Chamney. A contest was
conducted by Miss Barbara
Carter, and the winners, Mrs.
George Millian, Mrs. Gordon
McClinchey,'; , Mrs. Norman

sang an impromptu 'quartette;
"Barney Google." Miss Marsha.
Koopmans held a contest on
birthdays and Mrs. Ron Beecroft
and Mrs. William Moss were the
winners. A solo was sung by
Lorraine Chamney accompanied
by Miss Nancy Anderson. A
group of women holding white
tickets played,. a rhythm band
number of kitchen pans and
equipment presented to them by,
Miss Carter.
Miss Millian thanked her
friends for the gifts and invited
everyone to her trousseau tea on
July 12 at the home of her
mother, Mrs. Charles Merrill.
LIBRARY HOURS
The Auburn. Librarian wishes
to advise all the readers that
starting next Saturday the hours.
will be 2 to 5 p.m.
CHILDREN'S DAY
The annual children's day will.
be held by the Auburn Women's
Institute on July. 1,5. All children
of ,the community are invited.

Congratulations to Miss
Nancy Anderson on securing a
position on the staff of
Kingsbridge school. She left on
Sunday to attend a short course
at Toronto on primary teaching
methods.
Miss Judy Arthur,
nurse -in -training at Owen Sound
Hospital, is holidaying with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Arthur, Mark and Greg.
Mrs. Larry Sly (nee Joan
Sheppard) of Kingston visited on
Sunday with Miss Laura Philips
who accompanied her to Sarnia
to attend the funeral of David
Sheppard, 17 -year-old son of
Thomas and Marie Sheppard of
Sarnia. David died after a
motorcycle accident. The
sympathy of the community is
extended to the Sheppard family
who resided in Auburn for

manager here.
Pastor and Mrs. A. Fry moved
into the United Church manse
last week to take over the
Auburn -Donnybrook charges.
We welcome them to this

arrived home last weekend after
a couple of week's vacation in
the Canadian West.

Hamilton visited with her father,
Mr. J. J. Robertson last week.
Miss Frances Houston
returned Sunday evening from a
three-week trip to the West
Coast of Canada.

Obituaries
MRS. WILLIAM CORY
Funeral services were held
last Monday for Mrs. William
Cory at the William Stiles
Funeral Home, Auburn. Mrs,
Cory was the former Hannah
Elizabeth (Annie) Bean, the
daughter of the late Robert Bean
and Sarah Hasselwood of
England.
She was born in Colborne
Township and was married in
1913 to the late William Cory
and resided in West Wawanosh
Township until they retired to
live in Auburn. ,She was a
member of Knox United
Church.
She is survived by two
brothers, Robert Bean and David
Bean, both of Colborne
Township, and two sisters, Mrs.
William (May) Doak, and Mrs.
Hugh (Tena) Hill, both of
Goderich.
Pastor Alfred Fry officiated
for the funeral service with
burial in Colborne cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donald Bean,
Verne Bean, Hugh Faegan,
James Faegan, Harold Doak and
Elwin Doak.
MRS. JOHN McDOWELL
Rev. Ure Stewart of Seaforth
.conducted the funeral service for
Mrs. John McDowell who died
July 4 at Huronview after a
lengthy illness. Mrs. McDoweIl
was the former Elizabeth Jane
Snell, daughter of the late
George, Snell and Jane Bradford
and was born in Hullett
Township. She was in her 83rd
year.
In 1912 she married John L.
McDowell who passed away in
1950. She lived for many years
in the Westfield district and was
a member of the Westfield.
United Church.
She is survived by one son,
Gordon, RR 1, Belgrave, and
three daughters, Mrs. Charles
(Evelyn) Smith, RR 1, Belgrave;
Mrs. Gordon (Edythe) Smith,
RR 1, Belgrave; and Mrs. John
(Jean) Gear of Waterloo, nine
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. .
The funeral service was held
at the William Stiles Funeral
Home with interment in Ball's
Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Norman McDowell, Harvey
McDowell, Lloyd Walden, Eddie
Taylor, . Lyman Jardin and
Arnold Cook.

8 graduation June 26
commenced at Londesboro Hall
with a turkey banquet served by
the Women's Institute.
They adjourned to the school
auditorium where Mr. McKay,
principal, introduced the Rev.
John, Roberts of Belgrave, who
as guest speaker gave an inspiring
talk to the graduates.
Eric Anderson presented
diplomas to the .class. Sports,
scholastic and public speaking
bars and trophies were awarded.
General proficiency awards
went to the two top grade $
pupils, Randy Millar,
Londesb.ora, and Sherry
Plaetzer, Auburn. Randy,
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
The Women's Institute met
on Tuesday evening. The 4-H
girls with .loan Howalt, Joanne
Snell and Linda Anderson
conducted a demonstration of
cooking Swiss steak and stuffed
steak, salad and cold cuts. The
girls are a credit to their leaders,
Mrs. Jack Snell, Alice Buchanan,
Mrs. Harry Snell and Marjory
Anderson who were presented
with a gift from the institute.
Mrs. Jim Howalt gave a full
report of the district annual
which was held in Goderich
recently. Mrs. Fothergill
contributed a poem.

The general meeting_ of the
UCW was held on Monday
evening. Mrs. Howalt conducted

much appreciated. Mrs. Durnin
gave readings, Mrs. Shobbrook
introduced the guest speaker
Mrs. Johnston of Huronview,
who gave a - talk on the
management of Huronview and
the many changes which have
taken place since 1895.

Wednesday of last week for a
vacation in the West.
Mrs. Robtert Thompson

daughter and new grandson in
Kitchener. Mrs. • William

its annual Weiner roast in Lear's
pit Thursday evening and

Snell with hymnaries in honor .of
their forthcoming marriage.
Bill Cowan' and son Greg of
Barrie spent the weekend with
his mother, Mrs. George Cowan
and Mrs. Robinson.
Misses Helen and Sandra
Good are spending a few days
visiting relatives in South, Bend,
Indiana.
The WI' ladies were well
pleased with the successof their
bake sale in Clinton on
Saturday. Thanks to those who
patronized the sale.
Brian Miller won • the
inter -county trophy for junior
boys at the Field Day at CFB
Clinton recently. He has won the
Cup for junior boys three years
in succession at Hullett Central
School,
Mrs. Livingston left last
Wednesday for a visit with
friends in Kingston.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCall and
Susan .are visiting with Mrs.
McCall's sister and former home
in New Brunwick.
Mr. Edward Robertson of
Windsor and his sister Mrs. Bert
Brunsdon are enjoying a visit
