Donna Reid and Cathy Peel served the graduation cake, Congratuiations are in order to Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Tyndall who celebrated their 290 wedding anniversary with dinner in Goderich on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs, Alex Gardiner of Cromarty spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Howatt. Mrs. Edna Holmes accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hooper of Dresden visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin and Mrs, May Hesk who is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Group S was in -charge of devotions with Mrs, John Qstrorn leading, Mrs. Charles Reid read a poem and Mrs. Ostrom .read the scripture lesson, :followed by prayer by Mrs, Reid, Mrs, Murvin Johnston read an interesting :article on China, Mrs. M, Qesch of Zurich gave a very informative talk and demonstration of Clower arrangements for different occasions. The president, Mrs, Charles Reid, thanked Mrs. Oesch for her demonstration. The offering was taken up by Mrs. Ralph Stephenson and dedicated by Mrs. Fred McClymont. •Mrs. John Ostrom read a report on Alma College which was prepared by Mrs. Anson Coleman of Clinton, who attended Alma College at a school for leaders. The president read an article on why women belong to the U.C.W, Forty-eight calls were made during the past month to sick and shut-ins. Tentative plans were made for a church picnic sometime in July. Mrs. John Ostrom closed the meeting and lunch was served. June 2 at the age of 25. Born in Hamilton, Ont, on Dee. 4, 1.944, Mr. Dowson was a son of the late !toy and Frances (Pearson) powson and a stepson of Mrs, Allegra Dgwson of Hamilton who survives, Also surviving are a brother, William li, of New York City, and several uncles and aunts in this area, including Mrs, Fred McCullough of Goderich, Mrs, Orrin Dawson of Varna and Wilfred Chuter of Varna, The funeral service was held at Rall Funeral ..Home in Clinton last Saturday with the Rev. Murdock Morrison of Varna officiating. Burial was in. Bayfield ,Cemetery, Pallbearers were Paul Pearson of Hamilton, Bruce McCullough of London, Gordon McCullough. of Brampton, Eric Chuter of Varna, Wayne McBride of Kippen and William Falconer of Clinton. Clintonians go The June meeting of the Clintonian club, was held at the home of Mrs. Hopson in Bayfield. The president, Mrs. Hartley Monaghan, opened the meeting. Mrs.. Russell .Colclough read the minutes, Mrs. Frank Cummings gave the treasurer's report. The roll call. was answered by 22 members. Final arrangements were made for the picnic at Stratford. There will be four cars going and any member wishing to go is to be at the town hall at 9:45 a, M. on June 24. Mrs. George Glazier gave the card and flower report. The Escape assist charge facing Clinton youth. Gerald Hart, 18, of Clinton, is. to appear in provincial judge's court in Goderich Mon n a charge of assisting a person ;to escape police custody. The charge stems from ,a May 31 incident in which a person allegedly helped John Wayne Johnson, 19, of Teeswater, to escape from a cell at the Wingharn police station, Johnson was Looked up in the cell Saturday night on charges of causing a disturbance .and being drunk. Police said someone helped Johnson escape by walking through an unlocked door in the council chambers above the police jail. Both Johnson and Hart gave themselves up to police last week and were remanded in custody. Hart appeared Monday in court and the case was adjourned a week. Johnson was to appear in Wingharn yesterday, but results were not immediately available. A Dutch auction was held on two dish towels and a bottle of detergent. Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. F. M. Falconer won the articles, Mrs. Nivans won the mystery prize. Mrs. Hopson had a draw on a basket of flowers out of her garden, Mrs. Bailey won. Mrs. George Glazier, Mrs. F. M. Falconer, Mrs. Wayne Glazier, and Mrs, Wilfred Colclough served a very lovely lunch. Next meeting will be held on July 3 at Mrs. Elizabeth Butler's home. Crop report The majority of the corn crop in Huron County has been planted as .of the end of May. Farmers are now preparing the ground for soybeans and white bean plantings. Spring grains, in most cases, look good although some farmers report yellowing due to too much moisture earlier on. Hay and pasture crops are coming on well, and should provide lots of feed now and when the haying season comes.
