Clinton News-Record, 1969-04-10, Page 3From My Window What would happen f..? Shirley Keller • You know folks, I've given up a great deal because I aspire to a long life, Two and a half years ago I gave up cigarettes because medical men said it was bad for my lungs and respiratory system. Last fall I gave up beer because my doctor felt it might contribute to some serious heart and liver ailments, - About the same time I gave up sugar because my pancreas was sluggish. I've even given up coffee and tea because I've heard caffein can fracture .chromosomes in the body. • All this takes much of the joy out of living, and the joke of it all is that I'm not even assured longevity. Far from it. I could be striken tomorrow with some new complication or I could walk into the side of a truck and get smeared all over the street. I don't particularly like to be a martyr. It isn't my bag to suffer for a cause even if that cause is my own welfare. Life is too short to spend it depriving myself. But I'm no gambler. I don't like to take a chance on anything. That's because I haven't the innards to face 'the unknown if there's anything I can do :to prevent it, You know what I mean. I'm the kind of a person Who sits around and asks what would happen if.... What would happen if the house burned down? What would happen if the baby pushed a bean up his nostril? What would happen if my husband got sick for a year or two? I'm the kind of a person who believes , in insurance. The salesman who can show me coverage for the kind of emergencies that plague mankind, can sell me insurance. Sometimes I feel we are insurance poor and then I think what would happen if.,.,and I'm ready to buy more. I'm the kind of a person who makes the best patient a doctor ever had. If the doc says I'll ward off brain damage by standing on my head for an hour every morning, nothing could move me from that position. Everytime I'd think about skipping the therapy I'd think what would happen if...,and my DINSMORE — McCLINCHEY Mabel Marlene McClinchey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McClinchey of Zurich, was married recently to Robert Lorne Dinsmore, son of Mrs. James Dinsmore and the late Mr. Dinsmore of Windsor. The wedding took place in Sandwich United Church, Mrs. Lloyd Cooper was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Sharon Eckmier of Windsor and Miss Marilyn Hahn of Shakespeare. Ronald Dinsmore was his brother's best man. After their wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Dinsmore are to live in Bruce, Ontario. Dramatic play healthy Dramatic play has special values for children, says the federal health department publication, "Play and Playmates." In their play, they act out the world as they see it. They will pretend they are mother at home, father going to work, the teacher, the postman and so on. Play-acting helps them to become more familiar with the world around them, It also enables them to express whatever anger, fear, or even hate they may have stored up. Since they are doing this only "in fun", it is a mentally healthy outlet for children. NOW FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT Tho At CLOUD "9" ROOM HOTEL CLINTON Featuring SING ALONG WITH JEAN AT NE OMAN CLOUD 09" ROOM feet would go over my head again. Now I really wonder if it is worth it. Everywhere around me, people are throwing caution to the winds and living full healthy lives. I've always thought I was a fatalist. 1'd sing "Cue Sera Sera" with . Doris Day and agree with her that what was meant to be would be. Then I'd start to get those old misgivings. What would happen if....and I know I'rn just a faithless coward. Plenty of willpower and no guts. Early Files . Continued from Page 2 25 years ago April 6th, 1944 Mrs. G. M. Kessler of St. Catharines, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barret Taylor.
