Farmer kills "rabid" fox
A possibly rabid fox killed by
a pitchfork-wielding farmer near
Dungannon recently is the latest
in the growing list of suspected
Huron County rabies cases. The
one local report is of a Clinton
cat found to be rabid this fall.
The fox in Dungannon was
first spotted by Arlene and Lynn
Culbert, daughters of Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Culbert of
Dungannon who Ii re across the
road from the Adrian Van
Dongen farm:
The girls heard their dog
farm credit
barking and on investigating
found the fox trying to get into
the driving shed.
The Culbert dog later fought
with the foX in a field before
running to the Van Dongen farm
where it chased two ponies and
tangled with the Van Dongen
dog.
It was finally knocked down
and killed by Mr. Van Dongen.
The fox carcass was taken to a
Goderich veterinarian to await
inspection by a federal official.
Results tif tests for rabies were
not immediately known.
