The .local senior “B” girls
came through two hard battles
with Aylmer and Kingsville
teams to bring home the basket
ball championship f r o m the
WOSSA finals played Saturday
at Beck Memorial Collegiate,
London.
They will again hold the S. B.
Taylor trophy after letting it go
for a year. Eketer girls last held
it in 1950.
The final game with Aylmer
clearly showed* their power
they climbed through a
point disadvantage in the
quarter to bring the final
to a 24-9 decision.
Jean Taylor scored high
11 points followed by Julia
lop’s eight and five by Dorothy
Pooley. For the Aylmei’ team, B.
Harper and D. Prong snagged

final game with the spunky
Kingsville crew. Lead by Jean
Taylor and Julia Dunlop with
16 points each to their credit,
they defeated the , Kingsville
team by a sparse four point
margin.
With no forward substitutes,
the Kingsville gals held to a 3 6-
3 6 tie at the end of the fourth
quarter. M. Sanders of their
team marked 10 baskets for her
own,
Dunlop and Taylor for Exe
ter each snagged a basket in a
hot three minutes of overtime
for the winning four points.

races Juniors
Panther Juniors served notice
to Western Ontario “B” schools
Saturday that although they
finally wrestled the boys champ-
ionshij) from the seniors, Exeter
would be coming back for the
silver cup next year and for a
few years to come.
Paced by six-foot-four Gary
Middleton, the juniors edged St.
Rose 53-48 Saturday night to
win the junior title—an honor
they barely missed last year.
For coach Glen Mickle, it was
the third championship he has
brought home in as many years
at the school.
Middleton hooped 27 points in
the final game, one of the closest
of the tournament. St. Rose, an
Amherstburg separate school,
held a 28-27 edge at the end of
the first half. At the third-
quarter whistle Exeter was
ahead 41-40 in the see-saw tilt,
Baskets by Middleton and Hicks*
gave the locals a five point
spread soon aftei’ the opening of
the last stanza and the boys held
their lead.
John Hicks contributed 15
points to the juniors’ win. Row
cliffe, Bill Batten, Bill Yungblut
and Jim Sturgis scored the rest.
Sinasack was St. Rose’s big
gest threat, hooping a game total
of 26 points. After a first half
total of 18 however, the locals
held him to eight in the rest of
the game.

Senior Boys
Lose Honors
Handicapped by the sprained
ankle of Captain Ken Moir, the
local seniors lost their “B” title
in their first game against Lis-
towel Saturday morning.
The defeat marked the end of
a two-year reign ovei-
“B” competition.
Moir was forced to
most of the second half
of the pain of his injury. The
steady guard and smooth-work
ing playmaking led the team to
a 19-17 half-time lead but Lis-
towel’s Blues clicked for
points in the last half and
the locals to 11.
Glen Schroeder hooped
points for the Panthers.
Heimrich scored eight. Hay paced
the Listowel five with a 27-point
total, including a brilliant 18-
point second half splurge.
Lose Consolation
The Panthers lost the sonsola-
tion final by one point in a
thrilling night game. The final
score was 59-58 for the St.
Thomas school.
Ron Heimrich paced the locals
by swishing 19 points. Moir and
Schroeder scored a dozen each.
ANOTHER BASKET — Gary Middleton’s hair goes up like
a porcupine’s as he starts his jump to score another two
points. Gary scored 27 points- for the juniors in the final
against St. Rose. At right is Ron Rowcliffe.
