Finished In First Place The Exeter girls finished on top of their league this season with thirty-one points, one point ahead of Dashwood. We were not able to get the complete standing in wins and losses but the other two teams who made the playoffs are Lucan, with twenty-seven points, and Ilder- ton, with eighteen. The semi-finals are under way this week with Dashwood play ing Ilderton and Exeter facing Lucan in a two-out-of-three-game series. The tilt here with Lucan will have been played after this reaches the press but the return game will be played in Lucan this Thursday night. All games are scheduled to start at 6:15, Any team not making an appear ance by 6:30 will default the game. In case of rain, the matches will foe played on the following night to the one origi nally scheduled. Next week the winners of the two series will meet in a best-of-five final round. “B” And “C” Softball Grand Bend won from Cen tralia Monday night to cop the third game of their series. The winners will now meet the RCAF “B” team for the right to ad vance into the next round. In the “0“ series Crediton up set Sharon. This also went to the three-game limit. 'Crediton will now meet Dublin. The win ner will probably play Sylvian in the next round. Both the “B” and “0” series will foe a best-of- five games. Retain The coped season Huron-Perth loop. Clinton now meets Mitchell, in the “A.” series. CENTRALIA: Carriger, Stookford, rf; Andrews, cf; Centralia Takes Seaforth Twice Centralia made it two straight in their intermediate “A” soft- ball series with Seaforth by snatching a 7*6 decision at Com munity Park, Monday night. The airmen took the first game 14-1 away from home. The next tilt is scheduled for Seaforth this Thursday night, Centralia had little difficulty -piling up a 7-2 lead in the first six frames but a Seaforth rally in the seventh added three runs to the score, and in the ninth Mulford crossed the plate. With runners on third and first, Wil son grounded to Weinber at se cond for the third out. Thornton started on the mound, for the winners and in the first three innings held the Bosharts scoreless. In the fourth Cameron tagged a round-tripper with one aboard for the first hit. Noseworthy took over in the seventh to finish the game. "Why You Should Know Rule 44 Section 6 If while first base should be occupied by .a base runner, the third strike be called on him by the umpire, unless two men are already out. (The batter is out.) An important game in the big league was lost because a base runner on first base did not know this rule. He thought he was forced when the third strike was called against the batter, and the catcher dropped the ball. He did not need to leave first base and was an easy out when he tried to reach second. This rule was brought in to prevent the catcher from purposely drop ping- play. Foul If, hits caught by a fielder before touch ing the ground,, the batsman is not out. The ball becomes dead and is regarded only as a foul ball. ^The same rule holds true if a direct foul tip lodges in an —-Please Turn to Page Seven Ken- held $2.50 each $2.50 each ,50 per cwt. 3 b; piuuiuviu, tj.} AUUlVWS, VI, Arm* strong, c; Weinber, ss; Rebalkin, If; Thornton, p; Millar, lb; Walker, 2fo; Noseworthy, p, SEAFORTH; Mulford, 3b{ BousBey, lb; Smith, if; Came ron, 2b; Wilson, ss; MacGregor, rf; O’Shea, p, c; Hubert, c, 2b; Eisler, cf; Kennedy, p, Umpires: Gardiner (plate), Baird (bases, Stratford. 'MA Answer: The moment a base runner passes another runner, who has not been retired, he is automati cally out for status of the is in no way Section 16). NHL Team Is Last week it was my pleasure to umpire the plate at Seaforth, in the game between the NIIL All-Stars and Seaforth* Bosharts. The crowd w a s estimated at 2,2'00 and would have been even larger had the rain held off. This is the way the Blade Kings lined up: Catcher, Sid Smith .(Toronto); Pitcher,’Gord. Wright, (Toronto); First Base, Turk Broda. (Toronto); Second Base, Bud Poile, (Chicago); Shortstop, Bill Quackenbush, (Detroit,) ; Third Base, Flemming Mackell, (Toronto); Left Field, Ted Harrison, (Boston); Centre Field, Harry Watson, (Toronto); Right Field, Jimmy Thompson, (Toronto); Spares, Gns Mortson, (Toronto), Babe Bratt, (Toron to and Victoria). A very odd incident happened In this game, which I think is worth a mention, Turk Broda was at bat and he hit a high fly to the outfield. The outfielder ran for it, got under it, and just as he was about to eatcli it, power was cut off at the park, Broda rounded second, I immediately vailed time, rain started quite heavy at moment so tlm g’ame was held, up for half an hour. When the teams resumed Nay, I called Broda back to the plate again to bat over, and ruled no strikes on the hater. The Turk hit the next pitch for a two base hit. •'Lefty” Noseworthy of the airport was the pitcher for Sea forth and was really in champ ionship form. The score, when the game was called on account of rain, in the fifth inning was NHL AA-Stars 7, Seaforth 5. After the game refreshments wore served far -all players, umpires and guests, .and “Lefty” Noseworthy had a new ball auto graphed by all the NHL players, Join Our Here again we offer you the chance to join our club and to procure a blanket the easy way* Merely choose from one of our beautiful assortments of Ken wood, Ottawa Valley, Ayers or Strathdown blankets.
