married at their house in the North
Pole.”
Myra C. from Londesborough.
“Santa was flying, saw a girl and
went down to go see her. He fell in
love. They got married in Santa’s
sleigh right there and then they
went to deliver presents.”
Brook O. from Auburn.
“An elf introduced them at the
North Pole. They went out for
dinner to a Toronto restaurant and
then they went out and had a
snowball fight. Then they got
married and had elves.”
Nyla P. from Blyth.
“Santa and Mrs. Claus met at a
ball in Clinton because they didn’t
have anywhere else to go that night.
That’s why they were in Clinton.
They were watching the ball and
then they got married in Goderich
because the ball there was better
than the one in Clinton.”
Ashley R. from
Londesborough.
“Santa and Mrs. Claus were in
the forest getting their Christmas
tree. The forest was in the North
Pole. They saw each other when
they both started to cut down the
same tree. Then they went to
Santa’s workshop where they made
presents together. Maybe an elf sent
them both into the forest so they
would see each other.”
Oliver S. from Blyth.
“Santa and Mrs. Claus were
going to a friend’s wedding in Blyth
and they met there. Then they went
to Londesborough to get married in
the church there because it’s a
really nice church.”
Cal T. from Londesborough.
“Santa was flying and Mrs. Claus
was down below and he went down
her chimney and gave her a present.
They were having a party. He had a
huge package for her and she loved
it and married him.”
Drew W. from Londesborough.
Cole F. was absent from class the
day of the interview.
How Santa
met his missus
While Santa’s workshop is
undoubtedly a busy place around the
holidays, it certainly isn’t the only
workshop with a backlog of work
and a lot to get done before the
Christmas season is over.
“Christmas is a really, really busy
time in the workshop,” David Riach
of Davara Studio in Blyth said.
“We’ve had five birthday parties in
the first part of December and all the
pieces people made in them have to
be done by Christmas because the
children are making gifts for mom
and dad or their grandparents and
they are special. Then we have the
last minute shoppers who want
something special made and we do
our best to have all our orders done
by Dec. 24.
“The other complicating factor is
that we have classes going on, both
pottery and stained glass, through the
season” he said. “We’re working
around their schedules and our
schedules to get their pieces done
before Christmas.”
Sometimes we’re still working in
the shop at 10:30 and 11 at night,” he
said. “We’re kind of like Santa’s
elves.”Christmas is business as usualaround the workshop, except for thevolume, Riach said, including
always having a smile for customers,
however, there are some items that
are moving well.
“The big sellers this year are patio
wine goblets, coffee mugs which we
struggle to keep ahead of, bowlswhich are always a big seller and, ofcourse, the Huron County corn dish,”Riach said, explaining that the wine
goblets are designed to help the wine
breathe and the corn dish comes with
special instructions on how to really
make corn on the cob flavourful.
