THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2012.Director of Education retires after 10 yearsFor 10 years Martha Dutrizac has been a leader in the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB). Dutrizac started as Superintendent of Education and for the last four years has served the school board as Director of Education. On Nov. 26, she announced she would be retiring from the position as of March 1, 2013. Dutrizac said she has thought long and hard about her decision to retire from the HPCDSB. “I didn’t want to leave until the board was in good shape and I feel confident that the board is in great shape, although challenges do lie ahead,” Dutrizac said. Having been in education for 42 years Dutrizac said her last 10 with the HPCDSB have been the best of her life. “To have been blessed with people like I have been blessed with here is a gift that I will treasure forever,” she said. She added that working so closely with the Board of Trustees has been a highlight for her. “I don’t think anyone can really appreciate [how well we work together] until you see other boards work with their trustees but they don’t work together with the level of care and respect that our board has offered our system and has offered me,” she noted. Dutrizac said the thing that makes the Huron Perth board so successful is the continual focus and real care for Catholic education. “It is who we are and what makes Huron Perth such a special place. This board is in a really good position,” she said, adding, “It is not that we don’t havechallenges and it is not that ourenrolment is on the up, but the thingthat makes this board work is the collective efforts of everyone within the board - the teaching staff, the support staff, the custodians, our board of trustees, our senior team.” “One thing I hold really dear to my heart is that, over the 10 years, there has been tremendous change and now this board is one of the leading boards in the province in academics and that is due to people reaching out and embracing an opportunity to learn about how our kids learn, “ said Dutrizac, adding the movement to completing inclusionary practices for all kids and kids with special needs is another highlight of her tenure. Overall, she said it is the people of the board that her memories are made of. “I was welcomed immediately, there was camaraderie, there was willingness to work together, there was always a deep caring for Catholic education and there was a focus on our kids. Over time there was acceptance to make changes in the way we do things to make our kids successful,” she said. Dutrizac added, “Our principal and vice principal teams are exemplary in the province, there is tremendous support from our teaching staff and, we couldn’t live without our support staff.” She said she has also enjoyed working with the parishes and parents of the HPCDSB. Dutrizac said the establishment of the St. André Bessette fund is a highlight because its sole purpose is to help HPCDSB kids and families. “It has been one highlight after another. I feel really blessed and solucky to have been part of thisboard,” she said. “I know that theHuron Perth board is going to do very well. Our student achievement agenda is very high, our focus and delivery of Catholic education is second to none in the province, ourretention efforts and strategies toretain more students are as good as itgets. For me it is a great time to be retiring because I can see the efforts and the results of some really hard work.” “I know this board will continue toflourish.”Bernard Murray, chair of the boardof trustees, said Dutrizac’s relationship with the teachers and staff is amazing. “She is a people && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& Find && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& Find && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& in y && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& 5  The Healthy Homes Renovation T Find && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& 530+1.23215 '12+)!'1504+ The Healthy Homes Renovation T Find && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& 45$53 ,3421+*542 The Healthy Homes Renovation T && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& 5(+(5, 40#+0*10+, ax tion TTa in y && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&&) 40 ' 5 && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&&++ 30+1.15) + 0*'40,3+*.4 ''+..242)3+2' 530+1.23215 && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&&15'30+.+115) 21'12315'+ +*12+1 )30*00' 45$53 && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&&5)4+, 15'(2 5.405''+ 5(+(5, && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& 45 && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& $%'+(5,),3*2+,-2./501234 && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& "#$% "#"!!#!!"#&& && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& !#! #&& && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& Paid for by the Government of Ontario && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& Paid for by the Government of Ontario && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& Paid for by the Government of Ontario && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& && && & && && && & & & && & && & & & & & & & & & & & && && && & & & &&& &&&& & &&& &&&& &&&&&& For a good cause Shawn Loughlin, editor of The Citizen, was one of several community members who put their Movember mustaches up for auction at a fundraiser for prostate cancer research held at Central Huron Secondary School on Nov. 30.
