This fall, Huron Arts & Heritage
Network (HAHN) has been
engaging Huron County teens in a
series of workshops with seasoned
artistic professionals and
challenging them to find their voices
and gain artistic traction in building
meaningful connections through
digital technology and the arts.
Teens from all five secondary
schools in Huron County have come
together to gain skill and experience
in a variety of artistic genres, from
gesture painting to creative writing
and dramatic techniques to
imaginative digital photography.
They have been sharing their mini-
art projects and their thoughts and
ideas online at a dedicated blog –
artstraction.ca – where they are
mentored by a variety of community
professionals.
Now, the participants - working in
collaboration - are developing their
creations and exploring themes of
isolation for a public presentation
showcasing the process of artistic
expression. Collectively, they’ll
bring their ideas and their stories
alive during the Epic Youth
Festival on Nov. 4.
The final presentation will include
photography, dramatic interpreta-
tion, music, visual art and dance
created and curated by the student
participants with guidance from
professional directors Peggy Coffey
of Stratford and Duncan McGregor
of Blyth.
The showcase begins at 3 p.m. in
the Phillips Studio, 209 Dinsley
Street, Blyth. Donations will be
accepted as admission at the door.
Hosted by Huron Arts & Heritage
Network, the 2012 Epic Youth
Festival is generously supported by
the Ontario Trillium Foundation,
County of Huron Cultural Services
and Libraries, the Township of North
Huron, the Foundation for Education
Perth Huron, Avon Maitland District
School Board and the Huron Perth
Catholic District School Board.
