students were honoured with
awards.
Grayson Van Camp won the
Garniss Family Award, given to a
student who is a resident of the
Belgrave area who exhibited good
school citizenship and contributed
positively to the community. Van
Camp also won the Morris Ward
Graduate Award, given to a
graduating student from the Morris
Ward of Morris-Turnberry who has
contributed positively to the school
and the community.
Danielle Ducharme won the
Brussels Community Development
Trust Scholarship, which is given to
a student who graduated from
Brussels Public School and
exhibited good citizenship and has
proceeded to further their education
in the technical field as an apprentice
or through post-secondary
education.
Andrew VanVeen received the
OACETT (Ontario Association of
Certified Engineering Technicians
and Technologists) Award for an
outstanding student entering college.
He also won the Louise Patton
Memorial Award, which is given to a
student with excellent overall
achievement who resides in
Bluevale or the surrounding area.
VanVeen also won the TCJ4E2/4
Award for Construction.
Michele Studhalter won the
HNB4O Fashion Industry Award, as
well as the Lieutenant Governor’s
Community Volunteer Award, which
is given to a student who has
exhibited exemplary volunteer
improvement within the community.
The award was presented by Huron-
Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson.
Studhalter also won the Madill
School Parent Council Award for
exhibiting volunteer involvementwithin the community. She won theMadill Student Trustee/SenatorAward, given to a member of student
council who was the student
representative on the school’s
council and the Jean McEwen
Memorial Scholarship, given to a
Huron County student furthering
their education at a post-secondary
institution.
Studhalter also received The Big
M Award, given to a student who has
earned the required number of points
in academics, athletics and
activities.
Tori Kellington received the
AWQ4M Award for photography.
Natalie White won the Huron East
Chamber of Commerce Award,
given to a graduating student from
Huron East who has shown
leadership in both the school and the
community and is continuing their
education, preferably in the area of
business.
White also won the Madill Student
Council Award for graduating
students who have given back to the
student body through their
participation in academics, athletics
and activities.
The BOH4M Award for business
leadership and the Co-operative
Education Award also both went to
White, who also received The Big M
Award.
Morgan Deitner won the Huron
Women Teachers’ Association
Scholarship, which is presented to a
female student in Huron County
who has demonstrated an intent to
pursue post-secondary studies in the
field of education, shown leadership
and has strong academic standing.
Deitner also won the James
Menary Memorial Award, which is
presented to a student proceeding to
post-secondary education who has
contributed to both their school and
their community.
Deitner also received The Big MAward.Maisy Jefferson received thePinecrest Manor Award for
proceeding to post-secondary
education in the health sciences
field, preferably nursing. The
recipient must have exhibited good
citizenship, be in good academic
standing and be someone who has
volunteered in the health field.
She also received the SBI4U
Award for biology and The Big M
Award.
Alex Raynard won the Wingham
& Area Health Professionals
Recruitment Award, which
recognizes students pursuing career
aspirations in health care who have
contributed positively to the school
and the community. Raynard also
won The Big M Award.
Tyler Stevenson won the Madill
Secondary School Teaching Staff
Award which recognizes graduating
students who have demonstrated
high scholastic standing and good
school citizenship.
Melissa Leishman won the Jean
McEwan Memorial Scholarship
which goes to students from Huron
County who are furthering their
education at a post-secondary
institution. Leishman also won The
Big M Award.
Loretta Thompson won the
Matthew Dinning Memorial Award.
Named after the late Corporal
Matthew Dinning, the award is
presented to students who have
exhibited strong leadership and who
have contributed positively to the
school and community, while
showing service above self.
Thompson also won The Big M
Award.
William Haines won the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch 180
(Wingham) Award, which is given to
a graduating student in good
academic standing who is the son or
daughter of a war veteran or a
member of the Legion or the Legion
Ladies Auxiliary.
Haines also won the OACETT
(Ontario Association of Certified
Engineering Technicians and
Technologists) Award for an
outstanding student entering college
and the Bruce Power Future
Innovator Award, which is given to a
student who have achieved high
academic results, shows promise in
the areas of science, technology,
engineering or math and is
proceeding to a post-secondary
program in one of the
aforementioned areas. The TMJ4M
Award for manufacturing
technology and the SCH4C Award
for chemistry also went to Haines.
Bonnie Nethery and Kieran
Blaney were both recipients of the
Mustangs on the Move Award,
which is given to students who have
exhibited personal growth and are
going on to post-secondary
education, apprenticeship or the
workplace.
Dalton Hamilton won the TMJ4M
Award for manufacturing
technology, while Heather Bone
won the NDW4M Award for Native
studies.
Joost VanHittersum won the
ICS4U Award for computer science.
Wes Pennington won the TWJ4E
Award for custom woodworking,
while Justin Gillis won the TGJ4M
Award for communication
technology.
Joel Watson won the Successful
Stangs Award, which goes to a
student who has contributed
positively to the atmosphere of
Madill. The award is donated by
Lynda Elston, former head of the

EVELYN PURDY
Evelyn Eliza Purdy of Mitchell
and formerly of Cranbrook,
passed away after a brief illness,
surrounded by her family
on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012. She was
83.
Evelyn was the beloved wife of
the late Douglas Purdy (2012),
whom she married on April 17,
1946. She was the loving mother of
Keith Purdy (Barbara) of Alliston,
Judy Bouch (John) of Bethany and
Susan Ritz (Jim) of Mitchell. Evelyn
was the cherished grandmother of
Katherine Corry (Garry), Karen
Kean (Rick), Dan Bouch (Barb),
Kerry Bouch, Robin Ritz-
Carson (Jonathan), Jayme Ritz
(Jenna) and Christopher Ritz
(Trish), great-grandmother of five
and great-great-grandmother of
three.
She will be lovingly remembered
by the Purdy family and her nieces
and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her
parents Harry and Jennie (Coumbs)
Stuart, three brothers and two
sisters. She will be sadly missed by
her faithful little companion
“Sadie”.
Friends were received at the
Lockhart Funeral Home, Mitchell on
Friday, Oct. 19. The funeral service
was held Saturday. Captain
Jason Sabourin officiated. Interment
was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,
Ethel.
