The Citizen, 2012-10-11, Page 7THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2012. PAGE 7.Condolences, prayers offered to several local families
We hope everyone enjoyed a
wonderful Thanksgiving with family
or friends or both. Our family
gathered at my mother’s home in
Mitchell, but with a few absent. My
brother was in Texas for the
weekend and his wife was at her
parents. We will get together at
Christmas I guess.
Our thoughts and prayers are with
the Eedy and Purdy families this
week. Dan Eedy and Josh Purdy
were victims of an explosion last
week and continue to be in critical
care in London Hospitals. The Eedy
family is from the Winthrop/Walton
area and Dan is married to Stephanie
Rijkhoff of Walton. The Purdys live
near Seaforth.
Our friend Carmen Riley is a
patient in Stratford Hospital and we
hope he continues to improve.
Our condolences to the family of
John Smith. He was a long-time
resident of Brussels. He retired to his
country retreat after 39 years as an
employee of Morris Township.
Our condolences to the family of
Helen Bray. She will be missed by
her daughter Shirley and husband
Stu and family and daughter-in-law
Janis Bray. Helen was a lovely lady
whom I met when I started to curl in
Brussels. She was helpful, kind and
quiet spoken and will be missed by
her many friends and family.
Congratulations to Jason
Crawford and Erin Bolger who were
married in Las Vegas on Sunday,
Sept. 30. They had 14 guests from
the area attend the ceremony with
them. Among them were Don andBeth Crawford, Ami and Jamie andErin’s mother Faye Bolger and hersisters. Congratulations to the
couple.
Returning from a trip to the west
was a foursome from our area.
Emerson, Phyllis and Gordon
Mitchell and Emerson’s sister
Lillian Beer enjoyed a week away.
They went to Saskatchewan to visit
with cousins of the Mitchells.
Gordon planned the trip and they
flew to Saskatoon. Emerson reports
a good time and they are still busy
with wheat and lentil harvest.
Welcome back to the Mitchells.
Our condolences to Lavern and
Marion Godkin and Murray and
Olene Dennis on the passing of their
sister-in-law, June Godkin Andrews.
June was the wife of the late Mervyn
Godkin. They lived on the 10th of
McKillop during their marriage and
loved the north and eventually had
property there. The family members
attended the funeral services for the
late June Godkin Andrews at Lion’s
Head. Our sympathy to all.
It was nice to see Aunt Marilyn
McDonald on the weekend. Sheattended the McDonaldThanksgiving at the home of Jim andLinda McDonald. Most of her
children were able to attend and as
usual they had a great and noisy time
with about 20 people there.
The members of the social
committee met at Duff’s United
Church to discuss the plans for the
upcoming turkey supper. It will be
held on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre. They are going
to sell only 550 tickets this year, so
we expect brisk sales right from the
start. The date for cleaning the
kitchen and utensils needed for use
at the supper is set for Oct. 29.
Cleaning times are 9 a.m., 1 p.m.
and 7 p.m. The list of jobs are posted
at the church. The committee
members will be contacting UCW
members soon to discuss their jobsat the supper. Everyone is needed forprep day. A reminder that those incharge of an area are responsible for
setting up that area ensuring
everything they need gets to the
arena and back to the church.
The Thanksgiving service at
Duff’s United had a good crowd of
over 30. They were greeted by Ryan
and Adam Baan. Rev. Peter
welcomed everyone and expressed
happy birthday to four members.
Patty Banks read the Minute for
Missions and told the story of the
Clairemont House program in
Hamilton. It is an in-depth program
for rehabilitating and rebuilding the
lives of those addicted to alcohol for
example. The Mission and Service
Fund supports this program in
Hamilton. Patty also read the
scripture passages. Rev. Peter’s
message was entitled, “Thoughts ofThanksgiving”. The presentation ofgifts was accepted by Don Baan andJim McDonald. The Liturgy of
Communion was served by Neil and
Marie McGavin, Diety Bos and Jo-
Ann McDonald.

board meeting to be held at Duff’s
United Church at 7:30 p.m. on Oct.
16 and Bluevale United is having a
