What a Party
and a great Surprise!
We want to thank our girls
Ashley and Holly for all their
planning and hard work. Thanks
to our family and friends who
made any of the amazing food
and for all their help to make it a
great party. The pictures were
priceless. Thanks Kevin for your
skill at cooking the meat and
Gary for rides to town. Thanks to
our wedding party who look just
as good as they did 25 years
ago and everyone who came to
celebrate with us. It would not
be the same without you.

Homecoming stories still told
The stories are still being told of a
good time at our 140th in July. Wee
details that were seen or heard and
others missed altogether. People that
some got to chat with and others
didn’t see at all. So the sharing of
stories continues. At one point in the
hospitality tent, several children of
past main street merchants gathered
to share history – the Grewars,
Woods and Kennedy kids had a
great chat and let those around
remember stories of Archer and
Lowe as a start. So as the red, white
and black decorations and burlap are
slowly getting stashed, lots of good
memories of a fun gathering remain.
The busier life gets, the more
important it is to make time for
important stuff. As families grow
and move about, it takes a little
effort to see everyone together in
one place. For the Graber boys, it
was Bass Lake Provincial Park
when we were all in swimming at
one time. We number 13 now so it
was nice to be in one place even for
a short but sweet time. We span the
ages so water and sand is a good
middle ground, toss in a canoe andkayak and everyone is happy at leastuntil it’s time to eat.Sisters Alma and Gene Watsonrecently watched their combined
seven children and their families
catch up and of course eat at the
50th anniversary of Bert and Lois at
Wroxeter park. All seven kids were
present from Arizona, Florida,
Toronto, Waterloo, Kitchener and
Brussels with their kids coming
from many other communities.
It was so quiet here after Phil and
Lauren left and the 140th party with
campground was gone, we decided a
road trip to see brother Jim and Beth
in Hallville was warranted. The ride
east along Highway 7 is always
interesting and besides the fish and
chips in Port Perry is worth it all. A
very large beaver house with a
Canadian flag planted in its middle
was a nice surprise sitting calmly in
one of the small lakes along the way.
A deer crossing the road in tourist-
infested Merrickville was enough to
get you to sit up and pay attention
with a great big smile as you
wondered what would ever possess
it to take that road on a summer
weekend. Life can be so full of
surprises when you’re paying
attention. Jim and Beth are well and
looking forward to seeing everyone
at their son Pat’s wedding in Rigby,
Alberta in September.
After the lovely rains we’ve had,
the growth all around is almost
palpable. It’s a joy to watch. An
update on my rogue petunias, therehave been two growing in the crackof asphalt at the garage door. At onepoint nine blooms were waving inthe breeze and it still makes me
wonder how they could flourish
while other plants died in the heat.
Kid’s Corner was the spot to be
this week. Every afternoon activities
were available to our school-age
friends with leadership from staff of
Camp Kintail and volunteers from
our village churches. It’s a busy and
fun time for all involved.
Summer is fading fast, so be sure
to see and do all the things you want,
only you get to make your
memories.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

At the Branch
Fish fry crew helps with Blyth bonanza
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Legion Branch has
had a few activities in the past two
weeks. The fish fry crew went to
Blyth Legion to cook fish and fries
for them and the theatre bonanza
meal. They had 160 theatre patrons
enjoy the meal and had around 30
enjoy the meal at the Branch.
Comrades working for the Branch
included Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald, Eric and Deb Ross, Ron
Schmidt and Judy Lee.
The fish fry crew travelled to
Mitchell the next weekend to fry for
the Mitchell Lions Club. They had a
really great crowd of over 275. The
crew consisted of Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald, Lisa Glanville, Deb
Caan, George Adams, Glenn Bridge,
Greg Wilson, LeeAnn Konarski and
Sharon Robbins. The event started
under sunny skies but within the
hour a pouring rain started and
lasted for about 20 minutes. Then
the weather cleared again in time for
cleanup. Good thing we had taken
the tents, because they certainly
were needed.
The Branch was back into routine
this past weekend with the Saturday
afternoon euchre. Winners were:
first, George and Deanna Bacon, 72;
second, Charlie Shaw and John
Pollard, 71; third, Lorraine and
Michelle, 67; lone hands, John and
Iola Subject, five; low, Olave Little
and Barb, 47. Euchre is every two
weeks. This was the last euchre for
Comrade Wanda Walker as she is
leaving our area and Branch. We
wish her and her husband well in
their new surroundings at Wiarton
and hope to see them again sometime.
The Branch donated the use of the
hall for the Ambassador of the Fair
competition. The group met early
for the girls, Tilynn Ducharme, Tori
Kellington and Meagan Dolmage to
have makeup, pictures and inter-
views. They were joined by others
from the Brussels Agricultural
Society to enjoy a meal provided by
the Branch. Cooking for the Branch
were Jo-Ann McDonald, Deb Caan
and Mary Bradshaw. The Branch
sponsored Tilynn Ducharme in the
competition. The evening was opened
to the public for the crowning of the
new 2012/2013 ambassador.
Congratulations to Meagan
Dolmage who was crowned the new
ambassador.
The Sunday night dance returned
with music provided by the Country
Versatiles. There was a good crowd
of over 80 on hand to enjoy the
evening. Comrades Jo-Ann, Judy,
John and Mary looked after the
evening.
