Wheeler and Neil and Ruth Schade
enjoyed their day. The highlight was
the flight of the Lancaster plane and
seeing the museum.
Chris and Judy Lee went to
Killarney on the weekend. They
drove Ron and Joan Lee there for a
50-year celebration. The owners of
the Killarney Mountain Lodge were
celebrating 50 years in business and
had invited all the captains and first
mates who had sailed the Stormy
Night sailboat for them “home” for
the party. Ron and Joan, avid sailors,
had sailed the boat for 12 years for
the company. They were the oldest
couple there and had sailed the
longest for the company. About
seven couples attended the
celebration. They sailed guests of the
lodge into Georgian Bay or through
the channel at Swift Current into the
North Channel area. It is about a six-
hour drive to Killarney and after
dropping Ron and Joan at the Lodge,
Chris and Judy spent time exploring
the Killarney area, shops, walkingthe boardwalk, and relaxing andwatching the waters for the nextcouple of days. It was a nice break
for them and a very enjoyable time
for Ron and Joan.
The Johnston cousins travelled to
Petrolia for a family celebration on
Saturday. Keith and Bonnie
Johnston, Murray and Audrey
Johnston, Shirley Nicholson and
Marie McGavin, at the wheel,
headed for the 50th wedding
anniversary of cousin Judy and
Roger Williamson. They enjoyed a
wonderful evening visiting.
The McKillop ladies were
celebrating at the Walton Inn on
Monday morning. This time they
were celebrating the 25th birthday of
Shawn Rennick. Helping Shawn to
celebrate with a birthday breakfast
were Marlene Glanville, Karen
Braecker, Judy Beuerman, Yolanda
Gubelmann and mom, Carol
Rennick. Carol reports they also had
two family parties on the weekend.
About 70 members of the Rennick
family gathered to wish Shawn
happy birthday and then 20 members
of the Seers family joined them onSunday for party number two!Lucky Shawn had three parties toenjoy!

Walton community saddened by Ryan’s passing
The Walton community was
saddened this week with the passing
of Marianna Ryan. Our condolences
are expressed to her husband Jack
and to their children Stephen, Joe,
Peggy and Monica and their
families. Marianna will always be
remembered for her persistent and
positive attitude and courage in
dealing with her health issues. She
did not hide herself away after
treatments, but faced the world as
she was, saying I’m still me, hair or
no hair. She had a tremendous
strength and faith that carried her
through many difficult days. She
was a quiet, soft spoken woman,
who was quick to smile and enjoyed
fun with her children and
grandchildren. She accompanied
Jack most places and they enjoyed
most things together. They loved to
go walking and to dance. She will be
missed by her family and all who
had the pleasure to have known her.
Our sympathies to the Ryan and
Grobbink families.
Home from B.C. to visit with
family and friends was Andrea
Gingerich. She was here for about 10
days and was kept very busy. She
spent time in London with mother
Linda Gingerich and her sister Lisa
and family. They took Grandma
Viola Travis for a special dinner at
the King’s Buffet in Stratford and
enjoyed dinner at the Blyth Inn with
Jolene McNichol. She tried to visit
with many of her old friends, but
time is a precious commodity and
didn’t have time to see all.
It was nice to have Andrea in the
area for a time.
Here for a 10-day visit was Neil
McDonald, also from B.C. He
attended the celebrations at Duff’s
United and spent the rest of the week
working on his home in Bayfield and
catching up with many friends in the
area.
Rev. Peter of Duff’s United spent a
couple of extra days in Toronto last
week. He and wife Jinah, attended
the convocation of their daughter.
Hannah graduated from the
University of Toronto with an
Honours degree in Bachelor of
Science with Distinction, on
Tuesday, June 13. The event was
held at the King’s College
Convention Hall. Congrats to
Hannah!
A nice mix of moisture and heat
has improved the crops greatly. The
adage of corn being knee high by July
will be easily met with many fields at
that level already. Unfortunately, if
not a weather concern for farmers, it
is a pest concern. Army worms and
slugs are present in the area and can
wipe out a field of crop, almost
overnight. I understand the army
worms are like small black
caterpillars and work diligently at
night to feed, so spraying must be
done at dusk and dark. Crop advisers
are saying to check your fields
closely every day to watch for signs
of this devastating pest.
Congratulations to Gail McArter
on her impending retirement from
the CIBC. A party was held in Gail’s
honour at the Brussels Legion with
her family and co-workers present.
Murray and girls, Sarah with
husband Jimmy and children Ian and
Jake and Becky with husband Mike
and children Morgan and Garrett all
attended. The group was welcomed
to the nicely decorated hall with the
“Permanent Vacation” theme with
bright colours and Hawaiian leis for
all. There were 27 past and present
co-workers in attendance. Gail first
started working for CIBC in
Kitchener before working in
Brussels, then Wroxeter and back to
Brussels for a total of 33 years of
employment. Bev Blair was the
emcee of the evening and presented
Gail with a mallet so she can break
her alarm clock. The associate vice-
president of the Huron-Perth district
of CIBC was present to offer her
words of congratulations to Gail.
There were a few stories and
reflections from others attending
and everyone enjoyed a nice
evening. Gail expressed her thanks
to all and how she has enjoyed
working with each and everyone of
those present. Congrats to Gail from
all the residents of Brussels who
have had the pleasure of her smiling
and patient service behind the
counter of the CIBC.

Homecoming is just five weeks
away and the committee has done a
good job of organizing a great
weekend. All we need now is your
participation. Call your family and
old friends and invite them back to
come home to their country village –
western style.
Many service clubs had adjourned
meetings for the summer, but we
hope they have planned for a float in
the parade. The celebrity challenge
is four riders short of a full event and
only one service club has entered a
contestant. Put a little thought into it
and maybe someone in your
organization would participate.
There is a $100 entry fee and the
winning rider chooses the charity of
their choice to donate the prize purse
to. Call Jo-Ann Workman to enter
your rider as soon as possible.
