Playoff Contest The Exeter Intermediates drop­ ped the first game of their two-of- three series with Clinton on the local diamond, Tuesday night, by a 13-6 score.Four errors combined with three walks got Exetex- off to a bad start in the first inning as Clintoxx shoved seven runs across the plate. In the second they added three more from six hits, While Exetex- countered with one, Joe Creech scoring aftex­ hitting a double, The locals made it 10-4 in the fourth, Creech, Smith and W. Both teams seored two runs in the second. Exeter jumped into the lead in the third scoring three runs but Dublin overtook the lead in the fourth collecting five runs. Each team #sent two runners across the plate "in the fifth, Dublin three in the sixth and Exeter two. Local Race Ho rse Driver Doing Well Th is Summer A local -chai) doing well for him­ self is Vic Lutman who this summer has been driving foi- J. W, Brown, owner of the two Canadian speed­ sters, Count B and Cyrus Martin. Both horses have been, doing well south of the border this season and according to the papers Vic has done an excellent job behind the reins. The sports writers have been high in their praise in the way he has been handling the Count and in Monday’s papers was an account of his driving Cyrus Martin to a win over the heavily favored Gene Talmadge. Vic became interested in horses When Bill Haley was training Teddy Davenport for Sandy Elliot. He then worked for Floyd Milton, of New Hamburg, Who gave Vic his training as a driver. This summer he was hired by J. W. Brown, of New Liskeard, when Chappie Chap­ man became ill. Grand Bend Wins Softball Tournament The large holiday crowd at Grand Bend on Monday took in a fast, ex­ citing* softball tournament on the Lakeview Casino diamond. In the afternoon Seaforth and London hooked up in a close duel with Beaforth coming out on top at the end of seven innings, 3-1. The meeting opened with the Institute Ode followed by The Lord’s Prayer in unison. Mrs. Alex Reid gave the scripture read­ ing, Roll call was answered by 25 members. There being a total at­ tendance of 75. Mrs. W. Patterson gave a short talk on the theme, "Whatever enough, Shaddock Grandpas Weaver” Thomson, given by dress and apron parade was by Mrs. Art Hodgson first Miss Edith Hotson second for house dress and Mrs. E. Scott and Mrs. Wm. Hamilton second for the apron. Rev. Mr. Trueblood gave a very interesting talk oh "The Home” and also favored with a solo, ‘The End of a Perfect Day’ Mrs. E. Scott read a Very interest­ ing letter from an English Instit­ ute of which one of otir English war brides was a former member, Rev. Mr, Wells also gave interesting talk on the home life.
