We haven’t been talking to George Shaw lately but at the Lions Club meeting last Friday night, George told them that he is laying plans for an Inter­ mediate OHA entry in the dis­ trict loop. He has signed a goa­ lie and a forward, both reported to be outstanding competitors. * * * «• The Legion 'has dropped the lead for a junior’ team and in­ stead have decided to lend a hand with the younger lads. This is a far better plan and if the kids show as much improve­ ment as they did last year, Exe­ ter will have some better than fair hockey material in the not too distant future. * * « « Reg MacDonald, who last year managed the Exeter Cyclone en­ try, is looking after the Legion end and lie tells us that the Firemen are going to back one of the four teams along with the Legion. It is hoped to get the Lions Club interested in a third and a sponsor for the fourth is being sought. * * * * BADMINTON is in full swing again this season at the local gym. We extend our heartiest con­ gratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hicks, who will cele­ brate their golden Wedding an­ niversary on Wednesday of this week. A number from the village at­ tended the anniversary services in the Whalen Church on Sun­ day. Mr. Lome Dalgleish and daughter, of Science Hill, Miss Dalgleish, of Hamilton, and Miss Margaret Cook, of Waterloo, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Cook. A number of ladies gathered at the homo of Mrs. <J. O’Brien on Friday evening of last week in honour of her daughter and presented her with a miscellan­ eous shower. Progressive euchre was played, after which an ad­ dress was read by Mrs. L. Bus- selle and the gifts were present­ ed in a tastefully decorated bas­ ket by Mrs. R. J. Smith and Mrs. L. THrt-zel, Miss O’Brien expressed her appreciation in a very pleasing manner for the lovely and useful gifts, Lunch was served. Rev, Harold Swann, of Trinl- The Exeter Men’s Bowling League held its official opening Monday night at the Sweitzer Lanes.* * * * Although most of the scores were by no means consistent throughout the evening, a cou­ ple of the teams did come up with good individual players and total scores. * -x- * * The highest individual score (256) was bowled by Ray Wuerth, with Ken Hockey giv­ ing him a close run with 255. The highest team total for three games went to Harold Holtz­ man’s squad, which ran up a total of 3205 points. « « • • The highest individual average was not computed this week but we hope to have this each week from now on.* * * * Each team is given two points for a win and one point for the high team total, making a poss­ ible seven points for the eve­ ning.« As yet, names have not been chosen for the teams, with the exception of Doug Pi'yde’s team, which will be known as the Pinpoppers. 4-’ n* Each captain is to keep his team’s scores each week, in­ dividual and total. At the end of the season the highest in­ dividual and total scores can be easily computed. * * * * A nickel a week is donated to the pot to buy tropheys at the end of the season.* * * * If a player is unable to bowl some night, and a substitute is made for him, that substitute is automatically scored as 125.
