with both hands—-then brought
it down sharply over his own
knees. It broke in two. “There,”
cried the little man, “now I

We Wish to Thank
our many customers who, in the past few weeks,
have delayed the sale of their poultry while the busy
rush was on and the markets slow. However, with
the aid of another truck on the road, we are in a

HOCKEY NEWS is once again
to the fore on sport pages with,
the NHL and other leagues well
under way.

As far as district hockey is
concerned, it is still too early
to come up with much news.
We haven’t been talking to
George Shaw lately but at the
Lions Club meeting last Friday
night, George told them that
he is laying plans for an Inter
mediate OHA entry in the dis
trict loop. He has signed a goa
lie and a forward, both reported
to be outstanding competitors.

The Legion 'has dropped the
lead for a junior’ team and in
stead have decided to lend a
hand with the younger lads.
This is a far better plan and if
the kids show as much improve
ment as they did last year, Exe
ter will have some better than
fair hockey material in the not
too distant future.
* * « «
Reg MacDonald, who last year
managed the Exeter Cyclone en
try, is looking after the Legion
end and lie tells us that the
Firemen are going to back one
of the four teams along with
the Legion. It is hoped to get
the Lions Club interested in a
third and a sponsor for the
fourth is being sought.

The Exeter Men’s Bowling
League held its official opening
Monday night at the Sweitzer
Lanes.* * * *
Although most of the scores
were by no means consistent
throughout the evening, a cou
ple of the teams did come up
with good individual players
and total scores.
* -x- * *
The highest individual score
(256) was bowled by Ray
Wuerth, with Ken Hockey giv
ing him a close run with 255.
The highest team total for three
games went to Harold Holtz
man’s squad, which ran up a
total of 3205 points.
« « • •
The highest individual average
was not computed this week but
we hope to have this each week
from now on.* * * *
Each team is given two points
for a win and one point for the
high team total, making a poss
ible seven points for the eve
ning.«
As yet, names have not been
chosen for the teams, with the
exception of Doug Pi'yde’s team,
which will be known as the
Pinpoppers.

Each captain is to keep his
team’s scores each week, in
dividual and total. At the end
of the season the highest in
dividual and total scores can be
easily computed.

A nickel a week is donated to
the pot to buy tropheys at the
end of the season.* * * *
If a player is unable to bowl
some night, and a substitute is
made for him, that substitute is
automatically scored as 125.
This is necessary so that no
team can present some night an
above average squad.* * * ♦
