Last Wednesday night the club took a 10-1 trimming from the top place Hensall squad and then turned around and beat the other first place team, God erich, by a 13-6 score. Monday night, the last place St. Marys entry downed them 19-7, All three games were on the home diamond, Sadler gave up but four hits in eight innings and Joynt but one in the ninth to pitch Hen sail to their win, Exeter’s lone run came in the fourth frame- - Harry Holtzman connecting with a triple and scoring when Glenn miscued on Smith’s grounder to third. Hensall on the othei' hand scored runs in all but three in nings with their biggest frame coming in the ninth with four. Em Penh ale went the route against them and allowed ten hits. His teammates made ten bobbles in the field. Besides a neat hurling per formance Sadler was key man at the bat with three triples and a double in four trips to ■the plate. Glenn got the only other extra base knock, a dou ble ih the sixth, For the home team the five hits were all sin gles. one each to Robinson, Howie and Harry Holtzman, Smith and Brintnell. After God erich had pushed across a run in the first, Robinson, the lead off batter for the locals, con nected with a double and from then on the Exeter bats show ed more punch than in many a moon. Before the initial inning was over, the locals were in front 3-1. They had a big inning in the fourth and came through with seven more runs and added another three for good measure in the sixth. The win gave Mor ton his second xnound victory in four starts. Faulkner went the distance for the visitors', He gave up nine hits and his teammates aided the local cause with ten errors. Batting honors for the locals went to Morton with a single and a double in three times at bat. Robinson, Harry Holtzman and Hughes also collected dou bles. Morton allowed Goderich no more than singles with Mil lar getting two of them in three times at bat for Goderich’s best Kincardine and Centralia will stage an exhibition softball tilt at Exeter Community Park next Wednesday night. Last Saturday night the Cen tralia team was in Kincardine at the opening of the new flood lighted park and won from the home team by a 5-0 score. The game was Played before some 2,000 fans. Noseworthy and Grayer divided the pitching chore in the shut-out effort. The tilt in Exeter is a return match and should prove to be one of the best games of the season on the local diamond. On July 1st the powerful club from the port won the tourna ment in Seaforth. In the pre liminaries the Airmen took Stratford with highly rated Mc Gee on the mound, by the count of 9-4. Noseworthy chucked for the port. In the nightcap 'finals Centralia won convincingly from Seaforth, who had put out Dub lin ,by a score of 13-7. Grayer and Noseworthy did the hurling for the winners. While next Wednesday night will be the first opportunity to see the Intermediate "A” soft- ballers in action it may not be the last. The sports staff at Centralia is also dickering to bring a team up from Windsor to play here. Scanning the SPORTS Dy“SCOOP” Dentist: “Open wider ! wider! wider! After picking on the top place Goder ich nine last 'Friday night it was thought that maybe they had hit a winning stride. But Monday night proved otherwise when they took a drubbing from the last place St. Marys team. « * * And ain’t fans cruel, think, the boys who are trying desper ately to hit a winning combina tion. Several of the players took quite a tongue lashing from them Monday night. Ho hum, I guess it’s their privilege. They pay to see a ball game but nevertheless it is sometimes hard to take on an off night. * * 4 * Maybe a change of scenery will help the club., Let’s hope so.
