On the previous Saturday night game, Lucan edged the Ilderton team 5-4, By far the largest crowd of the season jammed into the Arena to see the fixture. Fans were hanging from the rafters as well as viewing the game through the back door. It was a typical playoff brand of hockey that, although very fast, featured close - checking nearly all the way. Ilderton es pecially was keen on backcheck- ing and it was not until mid way in the third that Lucan gave Shipley in the Ilderton nets a great -deal of work. The game started off at a very torrid clip but neithei’ side made any real threat until Hod gins was thumbed off for trip ping, In the space of forty-one seconds, Ilderton popped in two goals,—-the first while Hodgins was still resting in the cooler, Shantz scored the first goal on a long screened shot from centre ice and at, the 8:51 mark, R. Evans -blasted another long drive into the Lucan cage. Just as the period ended, the Irish were back in the fight when -a Paul and McRoberts -at tack sailed up the ice with Ger ry Paul putting the disc between the pipes. Evans put Loft in the clear at the minute and a half mark to send the Ilderton winger in on top of Lucas for their third goal and R. Evans took his brother’s passout from the corner to score at 2:12. This ended the scoring but by no means the action as both teams played a robust style of hockey that had the large crowd on edge throughout. Lucan gave the winners a few anxious mo ments mid-way in the third but penalties weakened their attack. They had nine of the eleven handed out by referee Goodeill.
