Four times the home team
jumped into the lead only to
have the game Grand Bend
puckchasers knot the count, But
midway through the third per
iod Dewey slapped the puck into
the Exeter cage after Fahrner
got the draw from a face-off
near the net to give them the
lead for the first time. It prov
ed to be the winning goal.
In the last few minutes Exe
ter tried desperately to knot the
the count but a close checking,
oppositioin held them from re
peating their last efforts of the
Zurich and Hensall .games. Goa
lie Smith was taken out during
the last couple of minutes when
manager MacDonald had six
men up at the attack.
Harold Shaw .was the top
marksman picking the net three
times. His third goal was a
smart breakaway that ended
with the disc in the top corner
of the net. Har Brintnell potted
Penhale’s rebound for the other
Exeter goal. Grand Bend divided
their scoring amongst Bestard,
Shikowy, Everett Desjardine,
Dadsville and Dewey.

HOCKEY FANS will .have a
chance to see the Pee Wee
N.H.L. in action this Monday
night when the four teams hook
up in one of their regular games
prior to the Hensail-Grand Bend
W.O.A.A. fixture. If you haven’t
seen these young lads in action
at the Arena Saturday mornings
you’ll get a real kick out of
seeing these future hockey play
ers. The .games start at 7:30

NOT SINCE the locals knock
ed off the Airport have they
been able to hit anything like
their regular stride. In the last
three games they have barely
managed to get three of a pos
sible six points. Not that this
isn’t a fair average but the
team appear to be in a slump.
In the Grand Bend game most
of the players showed up fairly
well but couldn’t get going as a
unit. .
Naturally the loss of right
winger Art Trites hasn’t helped
either. At the time he was injur
ed the Exeter forward was lead
ing his team in points. However,
there is a possibility that he

second place last Thursday night
by edging a 7s-6 victory over
Dashwood in the first game of
the night's twin bill.
However, a high-flying Dash
wood trio of B. Hayter, Haugh
and Musser extended the Irish
with their clever puck manipula
tions and accounted for all their
team’s seven goals. Musser fig
ured in all but one of the goals,
scoring four himself and assist
ing on two others, He tallied the
last goal of the game single-
handed in a clever dash through
the Lucan team.
iStretton aided the Lucan
cause with his hat-trick effort
Two of his markers came in
quick succession early in the
second period while the other
gave Lucan a two-goal lead
early in the game,

Leafs Win Two in
Pee Wee NHL Tilts
In the Pee Wee N.H.L. the
Leafs continue to show the lead
with two wins last week. Friday
afternoon they trimmed Mont
real with Don Wells accounting
for all their goals. In the other
game Detroit blanked Boston
5-0. Bill Batten scored three
goals with Bruce Cudmore and
Bev Lindenfield getting the
other two.
■Saturday morning the Leafs
defeated Boston 4-1. Don Welles
scored two .goals with Jack Jen
sen and Jim Sturgis getting the
other two. In the second game
Montreal beat Detroit 5-2. Mid
dleton and Hennessey collected
two goals each while Shorey
scored the single marker. Batten
scored both the Detroit goals.

With little more than a min
ute to go Gerry Lawson cut
across in front of the Hensall
net and slipped the disc into the
corner of the net to save the
Exeter six from their first de
feat of the season. The timely
goal gave them a 3-3 split with
the Hensall team.
It was the second time in as
many games that the locals have
had to come from behind. Last
week they edged out a win over
Zurich in the last few minutes
but in Thursday night’s game
they started their goal hunting
too late and just managed the
tie.
Hensall took a two-goal lead
when Burns scored in the first
period and Mason got number
two in the second. It was not
until near the sixteen minute
mark that Exeter came through
with their first counter from
the stick of Shaw. A few seconds
later Hildebrand made the score
3-1 for Hensall before Rycknian
and Lawson tallied the other
two Exeter markers.
Gerry Smith came up with
some nice saves during the
evening. In the offensive style
of play of the Exeter rearguard
the local goalie was called upon
to stave off several break
aways.

RLY CHICKSE
“Fall eggs have always been the most profitable to
produce, and Fall eggs can be obtained only through pur

Department of Agriculture. Not only are late Summer and
Fall eggs highest in price, for all sizes; but the premium
for big eggs is widest then. From August to December,
1947, the spread between A-Large and A-Pullets ranged
between 10 and IB cents per dozen! That’s worth shooting

NEXT MONDAY NIGHT will
wind up the regular schedule of
the W.O.A.A. although Grand
Bend may have a couple of post-
ponned home games. The follow
ing Thursday night is supposed
to be the start of the playoffs
for the Cyclone trophy accord
ing to pre-season plans. How
ever, Tory Gregg has informed
us that lie would .like to see. a
playoff series to declare the~A
and B representatives.
Because up to now the weath
er man has treated the hockey
interests fairly well there have
been no postponned games at
the Arena ' and the schedule
should be finished well ahead of
the February 15 th deadline.
This is -Tory's suggestion as a
result of a mix up in the B
teams and also because this is
the only grouping in the W.O.A.
A. that is not having a playoff
series.
The way it stands now Exeter
will represent the A entries
while the B representative race
is wide open between Lucan,
Hensall and Grand Bend. If both
Lucan and Hensall win all their
remaining games Lucan will be
one-half a point ahead of Hen
sall. However, if Grand Bend
win all their .remaining games
they will head both Hensall and
Lucan. Exeter will definitely fin
ish on top of the league and
will receive one of the Cyclone
cups.
If however, i!. is decided to
have a W.O.A.A. playoff series
Exeter will meet tho other A en
try, Centralia and the top four
terms will possibly playoff in
tho B section.
