Johns re­ ceived a letter this week from Mrs. Allan Bray, of Edmonton, stating that her husband had been accidentally killed on Nov­ ember 23rd. Many of the Exeter residents will remember Serge­ ant Allan Bray,, of the R.C A.F., who was stationed at Centralia and lived with his wife and fam­ ily in the home owned by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Johns in Exeter during his time there. Mitchel! Wins The Mitchell Intermediates took a decisive 12-4 win over' the Centralia sextet last night at the Exeter Arena The visitors widened their lead in each period with the score 3- 2 at the end of the first, 6-3 at the end of the second. Powell and Weber were the top snipers with Powell scoring- four goals and Wreber three. Wright got tno and Parrot, Smith and Walthers one apiece. Anderson Casselman, Norris and Kallio were the goal­ getters for Centralia. Attend Convention The 11th annual convention of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture was held in Toronto last week, January 7 to 9. A splendid representation of 27 was present from Huron Coun­ ty. Those present from this community were Carl Oestrei- cher, Hay Twp.; Harold Hern, Kenneth H e r n, and James Simpson, of Usborne; and Her­ man Powe, of Stephen. Ladies present were Mrs. O. G. Phone 31w Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Elliot were in Dutton Sunday visiting at the home of Mrs. Elliot’s brother, Stanley Tripp. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stauffer, of Washington, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Anderson last week-end. They spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. .Sjnulre. Bobby Quinn, 2-year-old son of Cpl. and Mrs. Quinn, of town suffered a masty gash in his lower lip and some scratches to his face when he tripped and fell on the floor Friday last, Mr. Roy Hodgins purchased the farm of Jonah and Wm. Sims, Lot 21, Con. 10, Stephen Twp., and re-sold the farm to Mr. Daniel Weber. Mr. Hod gins purchased a grass farm from Mr. Weber. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mc­ Lean, of London, spent Sunday with the former’s mother, Mrs. J. B. McLean and sister Marian. Mr. Bill Sprout, of Western University accompanied them .to the McLean home. Heart Attack Rev. Morley Colling, of Chat­ ham, of the London Conference, a veteran of both world wars, and a former pastor of the Grand Bend United Church, suf­ fered a heart attack iFriday of last week and has been ordered to take a complete rest. Hydro Men Home The Exeter Rural H.E.P.C. workmen, who were called to Kingsville where the recent sleet storm did so much damage to the hydro lines, have return­ ed to Exeter. Those who spent a week in that district were: Bob Crawford, Ossie Crawford, Eric Sutherland, Wm. Hunter and Fred Riseborough. Hi Highlights —Continued (From Page Foui- Close checking in the second half was the feature of a Senior Girls W.O.S.S.A. game here Tuesday afternoon. Exeter girls defeated St. Marys by a score of 3 9-8. The first Quarter of the game was a keenly contested affair. The score then was 9-5 for Exeter. Lillian Hunter-Duvar was high scorer with 13 points. The most exciting game of the season was played at the Arena Tuesday afternoon when Exeter Senior Boys played St. Marys Senior Boys. The game .was fast and the teams were evenly matched. The outcome was in doubt until the final whistle when the score stood at 3 8-37 for Exeter. This is the fifth straight—we hope they keep up the good work. High scorer was Jack Holman with 16 points. J. Rether was runner- up with 15. Mr. E. R. Hopper is in Tor­ onto this week attending a showing of new furniture. Mr. J. H. Jones has returned to his duties at the store after being absent since Christmas. Mr. Arthur Kerslake, of Us­ borne, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital last week for treat­ ment. Mr. and Mrs, Norman Hern, of Norwich, visited with the former’s mother, Mrs. James Hern. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Clarke and family, of Thedford, spent Sun­ day with Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Sweitzer. Rev. C. W. Down conducted the services at Dungannon, Crew and :Pt. Albert churches on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Johns visited in Hamilton with Dr. and Mrs. A. E. Johns for several days last week. Mrs. Sarah Gibson, formerly of Exeter, is convalescing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Madge, Hensail. Mr. and Mrs. Laverne. Stone and Marlene, of Kirkton, visited on Friday last with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Squire. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crooks and Ardaytli, of Toronto, visited with Mr. and Mrs. T. Coates over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ether- ington left Sunday by auto for St. Petersburg, Florida, and other southern states. Mr. Norman Penrose, of Ham­ ilton, is visiting for a few days at the home of his grandmother Mrs. Penrose, Andrew Street. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilson, of London, visited over the week-end with the latter’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Pybus. Mr. F. A. May was taken ill Friday of last week and has been confined to his home. He is improving nicely and will soon be back at the store. Move to Exeter Mr. Lex McDonald, who re­ cently took over the distributor­ ship of the Supertest Gasolene Company in this district, has moved his wife and family of four children to Exeter from Glencoe. The family comprises five children: Mrs. Frank Pearce, of Glencoe; Grant, Bob, Jeanne and Gary, now students at the Exeter school. Mr. Jos. Petrie, managei- of the Exeter Co-Op. mill, who re­ cently purchased the home of W. H. Pollen, Huron street, has taken up his residence in Exeter moving here from Clinton. There are seven children in the family. Jack, Donald, Jeanne and Olive are students at the Exeter school while Virginia, Paul and Patricia are of pre­ school age. Sister Passes Mr. Andrew Hicks, of Centra­ lia. has received word of the death of his oldest sister, Car­ rie, wife of Mr. B. M. Vail, of Vancouver, B. C., which took place Saturday, January 9 th. Mrs. Vail’s early life was spent at Centralia. Following her marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Vail conducted a store at Newbury for 3 5 years before moving to Edmonton and later to Vancou­ ver. The funeral took ..place in Vancouver on Tuesday.
