The program con­ sisted of recitations, singing of Christmas carols, a duet by Joyce and Howard Schenk, and a solo, by Rev. A. S, Trueblood. Following the program Santa Claus appeared and in his usual friendly manner distributed gifts from off a large Christmas tree; also bags of or­ anges and nuts to all the kiddies after which lunch was served by the ladies, Mrs, Oulbert, of Liican, is spend­ ing some time with her daughter, MrS- Eldon Hodgson, Mr. Norman Amos, of Guelph, Mrs, Gordon Rock and children, of (London, are spending the holiday with their father, Mr. J. R. iLindsay and Miss Dow, of Woodstock, spent WIDDTAM BROADIWT | William Broadfoot, 76, for many! years a well knowh farmer at Brucefield, died December 24th at his horn©, 47 Bay Street- Stratford. Mr. Broadfoot moved to Stratford when he retired from the farm 15 years ago, and had beep ip ill health for th© past two year® fol­ lowing a stroke. A son of the late James Broadfoot and, th© former Maria Etherington, he had spent all of his active years as a farmer and had won a large circle of friends in th© Brucefield community. Mr- Broadfoot was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford. He was married 46 years ago on Dec, 30, to Agnes Reid who" sur­ vives, with one son, Earl, of Strat­ ford; and four daughters, Mrs. W, Ebel, of Stratford; Mrs. Harold Sewell, Brantford; Mrs. James Kerrigan and Mrs, Vernon Flack, of Toronto. One sister, Miss Mary Broadfoot, lives in West Palm Beach, Fla. The remains were .placed in the chapel at Avondale cemetery until next spring they will be removed to cemetery in Brucefield. School Basement Flppded During the thaw the day before Christmas the basement at the Exeter school again, became flood­ ed and it was necessary to secure, a pumping outfit from ’Grand -Bead to pump out the water, The boiler pit was filled to a depth of several feet putting out the fire. Fortunate’ ly the electric motor was removed before being damaged. • F, W. The bride was charm­ ing in a floor-length white sheer gown trimmed with Trapunto em­ broidery and silver. -She carried Briarcliff© roses and wore th© gift of the groom, a string of pearls. Miss Edna Wallis, Reg.N., sister of the groom, as tendant, wore of pink sheer heart roses. Granton, attended the groom. Fol­ lowing the ceremony a reception and luncheon were given at the bride’s home, “The Maples,” to about 35 immediate relatives. The bride’s mother received in a two- piece turquoise dress with corsage of yellow mums. For travelling the bride donned a two-piece gold crepe dress, sequin trimmed, and wore a brown muskrat coat with brown ac­ cessories. The bride and groom left on a motor trip to Niagara Falls and points east. On their return they will take up residence on the groom’s farm at Granton. j held in place with white ostrich • tips, and carried a colonial bouquet of pink carnations, roses, snapdrag­ on and fern. She wore a string of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom. Miss Rena Vannatter, sister of the bride, as bridesmaid, was wearing a floor-length dress of pink sheer crepe with headdress of blue os­ trich tips, carrying a colonial bou­ quet of pink roses chrysanthemums and fern. Gerald England, of Lon­ don, brother of the bridegroom was best man. The bride’s mother re­ ceived in a two-piece crepe dress of British tan. The bridegroom’s mother chose a two-piece dress of gray crepe. Each wore a corsage of roses and fern, After the ceremony a wedding supper was served at the home of the bride. Later the couple left for Hamilton and Niagara Falls. The bride travelled in lime green dress, pink shag coat and black accessories. They will reside, in Crediton. CREDITON (Intended for last week) The Sacred Pageant presented the Evangelical Church On Sunday, ■Dec, 23, entitled “God With Us,” was a real success, The many dif­ ferent parts were we'll given and well received. A large congregation was in attendance. The United Church Sunday School held its annual Christmas concert oq Friday evening, Dec. 21st. A good program was given consisting of exercises, recitations, dialogues, drills, songs and a pantoniine, “The Holy City.” The different numbers were all well rendered which re­ flected careful training on the Dart of the convenors, Mrs. Lawrence Schwartz and Mrs, Carence Youngs. The public school concert was held in the Town Hall on the eve­ ning of Dec. 2'0th. The teachers, Mrs, Irvine Finkbeiner and Mrs. K. MclLeod are to on the success of tertainment.
