During the closing days of last week shoppers thronged -many of the stores, and it would appear that the purchase of gifts was never more extensive. Boxing Day was generally ob­ served by all merchants in Exeter. The holiday spirit prevaded the town, and '.comparatively few per­ sons were on the streets.
