The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. H, O. Dayman, who is a son of the late Mr. Dayman. It is with very much regret that the following error occurred. in last week’s issue. It appeared that Mr. Thos. Welsh had purchased’ the 'pro­ perty of the estate of the late Miss Clara Volland, this is incorrect. Constable Lee Hedden has purchased this dwelling and will move into the same in the very near future. Bob Hess, son of Mr, and Mrs. George Hess, who has been ill for some time was successfully op­ erated on in St. Joseph’s Hospital London, last week for the -removal of a thyroid gland in his neck. Bob is doing as well as can be expected and it is hoped he will soon be able to return home.The services on Sunday in the United Church were largely attend­ ed. No. 3, Exeter Young People's Union The regular meeting of the young people’s union was held in the Unit­ ed Church on Monday evening with Miss Ruth Brook presiding. After the opening hymn chapters were read from the Pathfinder by Misses Brook, Nellie Fee, Gladys Passmore, Barbara Shepherd and Mr. Kenneth Hicks. After the business was dis­ cussed the roll was called. Miss I. Douglas gave the topic on “Easter” and illustrated it by pictures. Mr. Kenneth Brook favoured with a elarinette solo. The meeting clos­ ed with the singing of a hymn and the benediction. Celebrates 88th Birthday Mrs. John Johnston, one of Hen­ sail’s highly respected citizens cele­ brated her 88 th birthday at bel­ li ome here on Friday and is remark­ ably well for her advanced years. Mrs. Johnston, formerly Miss Cath- erne Soldan, was horn in Tavistock and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. Soldan, pioneers of this district. Her husband the late John Johnston passed away some years ago. The family of rour children are: Three daughters, Mrs. A. T. Douglas, Hyde Park; Mrs. J. Parke and Miss Margaret Jonnston, Hen­ sail and one son, William, of Ken- | ora, Sask. A very great many friends called on Friday and extend­ ed congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Johnston. The meeting was opened with a hymn after which Rev. Gladman led i" prayer. read by Helen Finkbeiner. Following a hymn the minutes and the roll call were read and the business discuss­ ed, Rev. Gladman gave an inter­ esting talk on Easter, a solo was sung by Mrs, Hill and the meeting was brought to a clone with a hymn and the Mizpah benediction. Games and contests were played after which lunch was served. The next meeting is to be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. Yearley on April 21st. Community Campaign The community campaign is .get­ ting well under way and is away to a good start. Already fifteen of the leading business men are co-0'perat- ing by offering special bargains in every kind of merchandise. It is ex­pected to be a great impetus to the business during the summer months. The first sugar draw was held last Saturday night in E. K, Fahrner s block. Charles Fahrner made the draw and Rev. D. J. Gladman acted as chairman. Of the first six names that were drawn none were present to claim the prizes’. J. W. Mathers won the 50 lbs. of sugar on the 7th ticket drawn: Jack Anderson, 25 lbs.; Alvin Flynn 15 lbs; Albert Wolfe 10 lbs. Mrs, John Edwards won 10 loaves of bread in the draw of England’s bakery. Eastoi’ Drama The Sunday evening service in the Evangelical church was of unusual interest.
