Christmas celebrated in Brussels with parade, events
A correction...
In last week’s edition of The
Citizen the Brussels Lions Club was
unintentionally omitted from the list
of those who provided funding for
the Queen’s Hotel mural, which was
erected in Brussels last week.
Huron East Economic
Development Officer Jan Hawley
says the club has been instrumental
in the mural project and certainly
deserves recognition for the part
they played.
The Citizen truly regrets the
omission and apologizes to the
members of the Brussels Lions
Club.
The season has arrived! Santa
made his personal village visit on
Saturday telling the community that
the festivities are about to begin. A
wonderful parade said welcome to
the sweet couple dressed all in red as
pretty lights decorated vehicles of all
sizes and shapes. Cheers, smiles and
waves were all about as the parade
made its way past appreciative
onlookers. Activity continued at the
community centre where laughter
and fun certainly let the Claus
couple know that they are a
welcome pair here in Brussels
anytime. Families enjoyed the
atmosphere with a little something
for every member to enjoy. A chat
with Santa and reassurance and a
hug from Chlorina sent the wee ones
on their way to dream of things tocome. When you think of this time ofAdvent leading onto Christmas
that’s what it’s really all about,
dreams and hope for the future.

At the Branch
Bathroom renovations finished
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The week started with the
Brussels Lions Club meeting at the
Brussels Legion Branch. They
enjoyed a roast beef dinner before
their meeting. The inclement
weather kept a few of their members
and their guest speaker away. The
evening’s meal was handled by
Comrades Jo-Ann, Judy Lee, Deb
Cann and Mary Bradshaw.
The executive and general
meetings were held on Tuesday
evening. There were only seven
members of the executive on hand
and no extras for the general
meeting. Some committee reports
were heard from those attending.
Sports Chairman Rick McDonald
reports the PeeWee hockey team
participating in the zone hockey
tournament lost in the final game,
but had a very good weekend. Two
dart teams advance to district play in
February and euchre is being held at
the end of January.
House Chairman Glenn Bridge
reports the bathroom renovation is
finished with the hanging of the
mirrors. A couple of other plumbing
issues have come up and will be
looked at. The outside fixtures have
been winterized and a few other
jobs will be done.
Poppy Chairman John Lowe
submitted a letter with a few
requests and passed on a few
remarks about the Poppy campaign.
There are three catering events to be
held and the Christmas meat draws
will be held on Dec. 14. Donations
were approved for the Salvation
Army, Alzheimer Society and food
will be collected for the North
Huron Food Bank.
