The Citizen, 2013-09-26, Page 26PAGE 26. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2013. McGregor and Friends, headed by Blyth’s Duncan McGregor, along with the Foundation for Education and the Blyth Festival, is producing Peter and the Wolf for local schools as well as for a one-time public show next month. The show shines the spotlight on the talents of Steve Cook of Blyth and Celena and Michael Haskins of Brussels and is based on the original Soviet work of the same name by Sergei Prokofiev. Cook, who got involved with the show due to his close ties with McGregor who has cast him in several plays over the past few years, said that the show is going to be a great one. He plays Grampy as well as Peter’s uncle and, at some point, most of the animals on stage. “It’s going great so far, we’re on schedule and everything is going good,” he said. The Haskinses, brother and sister, each got involved through a different avenue. Michael found out about it through school and Celena’s violin teacher, Capucine Onn, suggested she get involved with it. While both of them weren’t sure of being on the stage, they are both excited about the opportunity. “I’ve never been in a play,” Michael said, to which his sister quickly added they had been in several plays through their church, but nothing beyond that. The entire group is excited about doing a play for children as well as being able to connect with the audience outside of the show, an opportunity not always afforded to actors. For Cook, being able to connect with the audience both before and after the show is a great boon while, for Michael and Celena, being able to work with that end-audience in mind has helped them be ready. That said, the one show that will be open to the public on Oct. 11 will give the opportunity for other people to see the show which gives Cook the opportunity to connect with residents from the Huronlea Home for the Aged in Brussels different when they play their roles. The wolf, being piloted by Celena Haskins, and Grampy and Uncle, (Grampy shown here) being portrayed by Steve Cook, are portrayed with some eye-catching art and intrigue. Michael Haskins plays the title character of Peter. (Denny Scott photos) Blyth’s McGregor directs ‘Peter and the Wolf’ Unmasked!
