(Jim Brown photo) Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador Meagan Dolmage headed off to the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) early Friday, Aug. 16 for a three-day CNE experience. She went by limousine along with the other ambassadors from District 8, which includes fairs from Seaforth, Clinton, Howick, Listowel, Stratford, Mitchell and Milverton. Throughout the weekend, Meagan had her interview, toured the CNE grounds, attended seminars on self defence, résumé writing and communications. She enjoyed a presentation from a past CNE Ambassador on proper etiquette, while enjoying a fabulous dinner. She was in the Mardi Gras parades, watched the Warrior’s Day parade and practised going on stage at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and introducing herself. She also enjoyed speaking with the children who were attending the CNE who thought Meagan and fellow ambassadors were all “celebrities”. Meagan says it was an “experience to remember. I had tons of fun, and after never having been to the CNE before, I will definitely go back again.” The semi-finals and finals were held on the Sunday at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 2 p.m. Each ambassador came on stage dressed in their formal wear and introduced themselves and their Agricultural Society. The ambassadors were divided into four groups for the weekend and were assigned a chaperone. Each group made up a cheer and they performed those cheers for the audience. The top seven semi-finalists were: Sylvia Megans, Uxbridge-Scott Agricultural Society; Courtney Connors, Vankleek Agricultural Society; Alana Tufford, Markham and East York Agricultural Society; Claire Milton, Stratford and District Agricultural Society; Darla Downey, Madoc Agricultural Society; Megan Lowry, Ripley Agricultural Society and Niki Alsop, Feversham Agricultural Society. These contestants gave their 90-second prepared speech. Mr. Congeniality was awarded to Greg Williams from the North Dorchester Agricultural Society.
