The Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador competition is fast approaching and is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Brussels Legion. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the competition beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Ambassador program co-ordinator Nicole Noble is excited to have four “awesome” contestants participating this year with the outcome being a positive one for whoever wins. All four young ladies have an amazing personality and will do a fantastic job of representing the Agricultural Society. Prior to the competition starting, each contestant is interviewed by a panel of three judges where they will answer questions about themselves, their sponsors, current events and agriculture. The public will then hear each girl’s prepared speech on either the Brussels Fall Fair, agriculture or their community. Following the speeches will be the impromptu question they will have to answer. The crowning of the new ambassador will take place at approximately 9 p.m. with outgoing ambassador Meagan Dolmage handing her title over. The first contestant is Katelyn McKay, who is the daughter of Danny and Patricia McKay of Brussels. She is 17 years old. She is currently employed at Brussels Foodland. In her spare time, Katelyn enjoys four-wheeling, camping, swimming, biking, playing volleyball and reading. She also helps canvas for the Kidney Foundation. In the fall, she will be returning to F.E. Madill Secondary School for her Grade 12 year. After high school, Katelyn plans on attending university to pursue a career in the health field. Katelyn is sponsored by the Huronlea Auxiliary. Meagan Sholdice is the second contestant. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Doug and Corrie Sholdice of RR 3, Brussels. Meagan enjoys four-wheeling, camping, horseback riding, baking and making bracelets. She also actively participates in her community by volunteering at the Brussels Fire Department Father’s Day breakfasts and helping out at her church. In the fall, Meagan will be going into her Grade 12 year at F.E. Madill Secondary School. She then hopes to attend college to pursue a career in office administration. Meagan is sponsored by the Brussels Fire Department. Ami Schimanski is the daughter of Frank and Jennie Schimanski of Brussels. The third contestant is 23 years old and has earned a degree in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology from the University of Windsor. She is a member of the London Western Track and Field team where she specializes in the Hammer Throw. She is a Junior National Bronze Medalist and the CIS Bronze Medalist. She currently holds the Lancer school record in the weight throw division. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering with her church and is a past Junior fair director. Ami is employed at the Huron Business Development Corporation and still trains full time perfecting her hammer throw. She’s also responsible for everything marketing related at the Brussels Farmers’ Market. She currently sits on the Brussels Build Committee, which focuses on developing Brussels. Ami is sponsored by Pioneer Hi- Bred Ltd., Brett and Laura Fischer. Twenty-year-old Kabrina Bishop is the final contestant. She is the daughter of Kevin and Jacquie Bishop of RR 2, Bluevale. She is a recent graduate of Georgian College with a diploma in Early Childhood Education. Kabrina is currently employed at Dean’s Valumart, Rural Response for Healthy Children and the Avon Maitland District SchoolBoard. In her spare time, she enjoysworking on the farm and working with children. She loves to curl and is an active member of the 4H Sheep Club. Kabrina was also a former Princess of the Huron County Plowmen’s Association. Kabrina is sponsored by the Majestic Women’s Institute.
