The Citizen, 2013-03-28, Page 21THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 2013. PAGE 21. The Lenten candle lit atLondesborough United Church on Palm Sunday by Minister Terry Fletcher was a symbol of the trust felt by Christians that God will always remain faithful. The morning scripture passage was Luke 19:28- 44, the story of Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. The senior choir anthem was the very familiar, “Open the Gates of the Temple” from Handel’s Messiah. Thirsty for Spiritual Nurture was the title of the Minute for Missions read by Jane Hoggart. Through the United Church’s Mission and Service fund Trinity United Church in Thunder Bay received help in 2011 for the development of a web- video. Sunday mornings Trinity connects with Pinegrove United in Rosslyn and Grace United in Nipigon. Neither of these two churches has a minister. Church persons help with the joint service led by Rev. Randy Boyd at Trinity. A totally new way to support smallcongregations. When the children were gathered at the front of the sanctuary Terry Fletcher told them the story of Palm Sunday and Christ’s coming into Jerusalem. The people were waving palm branches and cheering. When the Pharisees asked Christ to quiet the crowds He replied that then the stones would cry out and rejoice. Terry gave each of the children a stone with a face painted on it. The children made the stones rejoice by walking up and down the aisles shouting, “Hosanna!” Terry told the children that by being at church every Sunday Christians sing praises to God so the stones don’t need to. The message to the adults that morning by Terry Fletcher was about the ‘deliverer, the donkey and the disciples’. By the time you read this Kim Hunking will be nearly finished her first session in isolation at Victoria Hospital, London to treat her cancer. Robert reported last week that “she was in good spirits and everything seems to be at the point it should be.” Early reports suggested that Earth Hour on Saturday night was poorly observed in Ontario. Perhaps that might be because there was very little advance reminder of the event. I heard it talked about way too late to remind you in last week’s column. It’s a fun idea, but there needs to be more advance hype. This Friday is spirit day again at Hullett Central Public School so you may notice some unusual characters in the school vicinity. Pupils are asked to attend classes dressed as their favourite movie star or a person they admire. Keep May 3 open for the school’s “10th Anniversary Hullett Fun Fair”. The event has outgrown the Hullett auditorium so this year’s event will be held at the Blyth arena. More details will follow but you might begin thinking now of what you might donate or how you might volunteer for the night. This event, sponsored by the SAC committee, raises funds for the extras that promote education at the school.
