Harold who passed away March 22,
2012.
You did so many things for us,
Your heart was kind and true,
And when we needed someone,
We could always count on you.
And all that life has given us,
And all that’s left to do,
We will never have a greater gift,
Than our memories of you.

telling me that she didn’t know how
she and her family got through the
Great Depression and other people
have told me the same thing with
regard to living during the war. But
the reality is that people did get
through those times and lived a
better life and also lived to talk
about it. Those were huge obstacles
for people to overcome and yet they
found a way, a different way of life
to overcome them.
Today in our world we are being
asked to respond in a whole new
way to the concerns of our planet.
We have what many call the biggest
obstacle in the history of the world –
saving our planet. I recognize
that we are not moving fast enough
nor doing as much as we could in
trying to allow the Earth to renew
itself. But there are new movements
afoot that were never talked about or
got very little press 30 years
ago. Things like looking into
recycling and using renewable
resources like wind, solar and water
power which are slowly being
incorporated into our lifestyle.
These are all signs of taking a new
look at the obstacles that face us in
the 21st century. But there have been
people throughout history that have
faced incredible obstacles in their
lives and found a way to go through
them.
Let me return to the story of the
little boy who made up his own sign
for the brownies. He enabled the
children to focus not on the small
amount of watermelon but on the
large amount of brownies to eat.
God does give us many ways to
see a problem we simply have to
look for his perspective on it so that
we can find the solution that leads us
to Resurrection and new life. As we
continue in this new year I think our
churches are being called to look for
God’s new perspective in a changing
world. Our church cannot keep
going like we always have. We need
new insights that we can live into the
21st century.
Wishing you and your family a
beautiful Easter.

good taste or a bad taste. He told
them that bullying would be a bad
thing and a gift from someone would
be good thing. He told the children
that Judas in the scriptures could
only see the waste in the perfume
that Mary washed Jesus’ feet with
but Jesus told him it was a good
thing that Mary was doing.
Rev. Lackey’s message to the
adults was “Trusting Your Taste
Buds.” Jesus tells us to trust that
there is good in others. Jesus teaches
us to build trust with one another
and shows us how to do this. We
should trust our tastebuds and if we
find vinegar we should sweeten it
and trust in others.
The last hymn, “Lord Speak to
Me” was followed by the
commissioning repeated, the
benediction and the singing of the
response, “Go Now In Peace.”
