Tapp, of Detroit, will spend Christmas with his sister, Miss Mary Tapp. Capt W, E, .Weekes, of the C.A. M.C., Chatham, is spending ’Christ­ mas at his home here. Capt. M. F. Gladman, who is tak­ ing an officers' course at Kingston, is visiting with his family for Christ­ mas. Miss Doris Webber, of Strathroy, is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Webber, Miss Evelyn Howard, B. A., of Toronto, is spending the Christmas holidays with ber parents, Mr. and Mrs, G, S. Howard. Last week we mentioned that Mrs, John Taylor had been quite ill, but was improving. This should have read Mr. John Taylor. The sale of Christmas trees has not been as brisk this season as in some former years. Christmas trees are becoming scarcer. Mr. Allan W, Pickard, of Regina, Sask., is spending Christmas with Mr, and Mrs. C. V. Pickard and with Mr, and Mrs. M. F. Gladman. Many a motor vehicle was stalled in the drifts or skidded from the roads during the Friday night and Saturday snowstorms. The wreckers had a busy time pulling them out. L.A.C. Harold Brown, of Winni­ peg, who is on a 14-day leave visit­ ing his father, Mr. Henry Brown, of Crediton, spent -Tuesday with his cousin, Donald Kernick. The schools closed on Tuesday for the Christmas vacation and will re­ main olosed until Monday, January 4 th. Christmas concerts have been the order in most of the schools. Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Cudmore, Bruce and Nancy, of Toronto, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Floody, of Windsor, will spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Lindenfield. A.C.2 Jos. B. Creech,, A.C.2 Ro­ bert Southcott and A.C.2 Alden Walker, of. the Galt Aircraft School, are spending the Christmas week-end at their respective homes. Mrs. C. V, Pickard, who has been in the West for several weeks, ow­ ing to the illness of her mother, Mrs. Riddell, of Frobisher, Sask., return­ ed to Exeter on Sunday, her mother being somewhat improved. The Christmas tree that for a number of years was gaily lighted with colored lights between the town hall and library, is heing miss­ ed this year as a war conservation measure, Likewise many of the homes have missed the gaily decor­ ated lights. Lights will be permit­ ted for interior decorations from to; night until New Year’s. There are many persons in uni­ form enjoying Christmas leave. We report a number of them. We would like to know of others who ate here for Christmas or who will be homo for New Year’s. Seldon, Dr. Seldon is on the staff of the Mayo Clinic and at the pre­ sent time the staff is doing double duty as so many of the .members have joined the medical corps of the American forces. The young people of James St. United Church hold their Christ-: ■mas meeting Monday evening with Miss Vera Deckei* presiding. Hymns and prayer were followed by a Scrip­ ture reading by Bernice Flnkbelner. Rev. Irwin led in prayer. Gloria Appleton and Margaret White ren­ dered a delightful duet, Vera Deck­ er gave a very interesting talk. A hymn and the Mizpah benediction closed the meeting.
