There, is no sig- nature, no way of knowing who has spent money to pinee it in the paper, no way of knowing Who is wise enough to kaoW that this one instmuetion, if taken literally could change the world . . Isn't Chtiattnes won- derful? * * * We watched the Kin Club of Clinton ride merrily up to the Hospital door the other evening . . They came by way of a sleigh made more or less com- fortable by bales of hay . . . and they lifted up their voice in song to cheer those who re- main patients within the hospit- al . . This is a service club in attion, indeed . . And then they made their way to their toy workshop for reel work, completing the boxing and pre- paring their gifts for delivery to homes where they are need- ed This tee, is the time for • calendars . and some of them are fun while some are eduea- time]. . We have one on our wall just in &lent of the type- writer, which features lovely drawings of game birds . . and 'at the moment the one which shows With a seasonal greetings message, is of West- ern Geese' . . . A tiny downy gosling riding on the back of his mother and two other trail closely behind . . . But on the next page over, is a flock of ruddy ducks- . . . a species of whit*. we had not been aware before receiving this particular calendar. . The Male sportS scarlet plumage, bright blue bill, white cheeks, and black top-knot, while hits. tail is an • erect fain of white feathers with golden tips.. Mate is a calm grey withbrown topknot and pale blue bill, while the ducklings are uniformly grey and blue feathers . . . All have blue eyes . . . These birds would be fun to have around . . . * • * With same fear and trem- bling we report to you a rather interesting TV program next Monday night . • . The title of the thing is '"All Hell for a Basement" and that four-letter word 'is the reason for our fear and trembling ... Perhaps in a family journalwe should not use :the word' - 'but in the context in which it is meant, surely there is no harm . . . Apparently Rudyard Kipling used the phrase "All Hell for a Basement" when he described the flowing gas wells near Medicine Hat, . and now CBC has used the graphic de- scription to title 'a historical program on 'the early days of boom and oil fever at Petrone, Turner Valley and Leduc, and the Athabasca Tarsands . . We know at first hand the development of the oil industry at Sarnia, which got its start from the products found be- neath the soil in and around Petrolla . . . 'and we all know that additional oil and natural gas are brought to the Chemi- Cal Valley there by boat and by pipeline for refining in huge chemical plants . . A pictorial review of history and the pre- sent .situation in the industry will be fascinating for us . . and We think many of you will enjoy it too . Making Sure Nobody Goes Hungry at Christmas Every year the Kinsmen Club of Clinton, as- sisted by other local groups, distributes baskets of food, clothing and tOys to needy families in Clinton and area. The need is not so great this year and neither was the request .for good used clothing and toys. The Kinsmen have made up 20 baskets of food, including an 8-10 lb. turkey, bag of potatoes, canned goods and candy, which were distributed yesterday afternoon; The toys and clothing will be distributed before Christmas eve. The Clinton Lions Club supplied the turkeys and the Corporals' Club at RCAF Station supplied canned goods. Chairman of the Kin committee this year was William Fleming shown at right.
