chartered banks. which normally
provide extended hours of ser-
vice on Fridays, will instead,
provide such service on Thurs-
days, December 23 and 30.

PENSION PLAN IN A
NUTSHELL
Here from The . Financial
Post,- is a summary of the Can-
ada Pension Plan (OPP) which
was given Royal assent on April
3, 1965. CPT' is a compulsory,
wage-related, contributory plan
which will pay a retirement
pension of 25% of average
earnings up to $5,000. Provision
has been made to increase the
earnings ceiling and the pension
as cost of living goes up. Con-
tribution to CRP — and to the
Quebec Pension Plan which has
identical contributions and ben-
efits — pis 1.8% of earnings ex-
cess of $600 up to $5,000 from
employer and employee. Self-
employed persons contribute
3.6% on earnings in excess of
$800 up to $5,000. Contributions
will be collected starting Jan'.
1, 1966, and benefits will start
one year later. Maximum pen-
sion is payable after 10 years'
contributions.
Cost 'to date of the 4,891-
mile Trans-Canada Highway
has been $1.5 billion, of which
the federal contribution has
been $584 million.
