Rangers "Bumps" On Ice Cancel Skating At Lions Arena Clinton Lions arena man- ager Howard Brunisdon was' 'down' _in the dumps with the bumps" last weekend. He and arena caretaker Doug Kennedy just couldn't cape with the little bumps that were forming on the ice from drips from the leaky roof. • Skating last Saturday and Sunday had to be cancelled, for which Howard feels very sorry. The drips formed upside- down icicles on the ice, which. Howard says "proves that the lice making machine was doing its job". Howard added that if any- one says, 'Fix the roof," just tell them that we have done about all we can with the old metal roof. 1966 Vehicle Licences Available at 147 Huron St. Corner of Huron & Shipley Open Hours 9-12 a.m. & 1:30-5:30 p.m. Open Saturday 9 to 12 Mrs. Phyllis Butler I Get Your Licences Early . .. That is until they reali7e Christmas treeS are big busin- ess in several of our Canadian provinces. Four and a half Ma- lian trees were moved by CN alone 'across the American bor- der this season from the Mari- times, . They were treated as perishable and had a priority at shipping yards where CN had spatted some 1,500 cars for loading. Destined for the living rooms of American's as far a- way as Florida and Texas, it is not hard to imagine what their sale has meant to the economy-of those thickly wood- ed Maritime provinces. The market represents millions of dollars, adding to the contents of wallets in the pockets of cutters and, shippers. There are Christmases that stand out in one's' memory more prominently than others. In mine there is the Christmas season we as a •family trudged to the Boy Scout "Christmas Tree Lot" to. make our annual purchase.' Planned Celebration We had left it rather late because the youngest member of •the family had been ill and buying a Christmas tree with- out his' Presence among us was unthinkable. There was still a good choice. The trees were lined up in a very business-like manner, grad- ed according to, size and price. Because we were celebrating our patient's recovery in time to enjoy Christmas, we decided to splurge and 'buy the biggest, fattest, most resplendent tree on the lot. The deal was just about clos- ed when' our youngest appear- ed lugging a little runt of a tree with a bent trunk and a noticeable lack of branches where there should have been several. This, he informed us, was the one he wanted. "It is so ugly no one will want to buy it," he said. We didfil dis- pute his opinion, while handing a slightly congealed Scout the price of 'the bigger tree we had chosen. With the proverbial patience of Job we all took turns drap- ing that little tree • in lead strips until tit glistened and shimmered like a dancing fug- itive from the Nut Cracker ballet. No Christmas tree was ever more lovingly laden with ornaments and gifts. It seemed to preen in its corner by the fireplace and for a, week it was the abject of a great deal of admiration. Many trees •have come and gone in that same corner, just as lovingly trim- med for the holiday season, but none has held the same ever. lasting Place among our legends of Chrittmases past, ' OWNER-
