Mr. Newcombe outlined pro- posed new service - a train leaving Kincardine at 7 am., travelling via Lucknow, Wing- ham, Brussels and Listowel to Palmerston.; an other line out of Southampton to Palmerston, and the two combining for the run into Toronto, arriving at 10:40 'a.m. Return train would leave Toronto at 6:05 .p.m. and arrive at Kincardine and South- ampton at 9:40. Clinton is just ten miles south of the most southern proposed line. To end the first half of the evening, Mr. Newcombe show- ed. slides of the new ONR equipment, the trains, cars, new colour scheme, and cross Canada sehedisles. After , an intermission with coffee served, 'a question and answer period ensued. Mayor Donald Symons noted, "This is possibly a step back- wards, to our way of thinking here in Clinton. The train goes ten to 15 miles away, but not to Clinton." Reeve Duff Thompson ex- plained that this move would eliminate passenger service to Clinton entirely. He asked if service at peak periods of the year, such. as at weekends, holi- day weekends, etc.- had been considered. Mayor Frank Wal- kom asked' if service to Cede- rich during Young Canada Week (the big hockey week in the county town) at . Easter could be 'considered. Mr. Hunt replied that at holi- day times the other lines on CNR were also busy, and they would not be able to hold equipment for short runs. "We're competing here against fine roads, 'bus service, etc., and there are good alternate services," said Htint. In .answer to questionS, the panel from .CNR explained that the line probably had always lost Money-that it was not a new thing. They expected the Board of Transport Commis- sioners to grant their request to stop the service; and expect- ed it would take place in the spring of 1966. John lVfacFarlane asked ab- out the cost of a rail-liner out of Gotlerieh in the morning. Mr. Hunt explained it cost $125,000, without considering payment to The First Column CLINTON BRANCH 140 ROYAL CANADIAN. .LEGION, !FT FRO TETT' FOR Cornflower Crystal V Carving Sets V Chime Gifts V Clocks V Lighters V Cigarette Cases V Compacts V Pens V' Desk Sets V Dresser Sets V Mirrors 3 Typewriters V Cuaoo Clocks UNTIL CHRISTMAS -- A Small Deposit Will Hold --,-7411mrp--kp-sTIST.0A,17114M.77..e3trt' .3: 7'1-77orrm""r"?TiVi
