knowledge has earned him a
long and varied career as
Project .Engineer and Station-
ary Engineer in Pulp and
Paper Mills in Northern Can-
ada and in large Power
Plants overseas in Asia,
Mr, Lavallee and his wife
plan to retire to Elgin, near
Kingston.
The Chief Engineer of the
RCAF Clinton Central Heat-
ing Plant, Maurice Alexan-
der Lavallee this week retired
from service with the Depert-
ment of National Defence.
Maurice has been at Sta-
tion Clinton since April. 1962
and, with his wife,Elizabeth
and daughter Mary, he lives
at Hayfield.

The winner has held an ex-
cellent record in work for
the past years and has tak-
en an active part in .eorturtunity
school and junior Farmer work.
She also won. a second .special,
award, presented for the first
time by the Canadian Canners
Ltd.,as the top member of the
'-Exeter Sweet Corn Club.
The event was the climax for
91.5 per cent of the 395 pro-
jects undertaken this year in
21 4-H agricultural clubs, Don-
eld S. 'Pullen, Clinton, .assist-
ant agricultural representative
for Huron. County, 'who, directed
the projects with the aid of 52
volunteer club leaders, report-
ed that 70 of the projects were
undertaken by girls,
Mr. Pullen said that there
was an 15.8 per cent average
membership per club Which Was
considered high compared with
other , counties across Ontario.
"Huron County also .excels in
having 39 per cent of its total
4-H membership in the age
group of 16 'to 21 years.
Gerald Smith, RR 2 Brussels,
won the , C, S. MacNaughton
Trophy as the 4-H member re-
ceiving the highst scare-that
of 952 points out of a possible
1,000. The trophy was present-
ed by its donor, the Hon. C. S.
lVfacNaughton, Ontario's Mini-
ster of Highways,.
A 13-year-old RP, 2 Lucknow
girl, Lynda Walden, as the
novice member obtaining the
highest standing, won the
Warden's trophy, presented by
Huron County ,Warden, Glenn
Webb, reeve of Stephen Town-
ship.
Bob MacNaughton, RR 3 Kip-
pen, took three special awards,
the J. A. Anstettt Clinton jew-
eller award, for his highest
score in 4-H Beef Cvaf Clubs,
the Seafortih branch of the
Toronto-Dominion Bank award,
as the champion all-round
showman and the Huron Coun-
ty Hog Producers, Association's

Leander Lawlor
Dies At 88
In Manitoba
AUBURN - Relatives in
this district received word of
the death of Leander Lawlor
at Kenton, Manitoba. He was
in his 89th year.
Born do the Auburn area, he
was the son of the late Thomas
Lawlor and Mary Neave. He
attended SS 3 Colborne and
left for the West over sixty
years ago. He was a carpenter
and also operated a machine
repair shop.
Always keen in sports, he
won many trophies for curling,
It is said that he' was the first
to organize a hockey team to
play on the ice of the Maitland
River under the old bridge at
Auburn.
His wife passed away about
20 'years ago. Three sisters,
Mrs. Alfred (Mary) Rollins=
and Mrs. William (Julia) .Medd
of Goderich and Mrs. William
(Dora) Ferguson of Windsor
and one brother, George Lawlor
of Auburn, survive:

Explorers held their Initiation
Ceremony in Knox United Ch-
urch last Sunday afternoon.
While the congregation assem-
bled, Sherry Plaetzer and Dor-
een McClinchey played music.
Chief Counsellor Mrs. Maur-
ice Bean was in charge and was
assisted' by Mrs. Donald Yoting,
Mrs. Arthur Grange and Miss
Marsha Koopmans. Chief Ex-
plorer Marie Plunkett wel-
comed everyone and the scrip-
ttire lesson Was read by Mar-
lene Armstrong. Prayers were
taken by Marian Armstrong.
The offering was received by
Somme Bakelaar and Barbara
Chamney and dedicated with
prayer by Anna.
