('Continued from page 1)
Lloyd Pipe spoke on this .situ,
atleA saying, "It was a ,stupid
piece of 'business on the part' of
the county road committee,"
He told. the reeve the move had
not been opposed strong .enough,
"it is a link between Highway
4 and a „county road," he went
on.
TqeliPer advised 'that the Opt,'
.anio Department. of Highways
rxentrnends that :any farmer
should not have drive over
four miles, to reach. a black
top or other good road, This
section is only 314 miles long.
Pipet plans to petition that
this section remain with the
county, and elahns he can get
100 percent of the people on
the road to sign the petition.
He asked Reeve Leiper for sup-
port in the move. '
Leiper also 'reviewed work
on the county home committee,
agricultural reforestation, lib,
rary„ BlVfQ. He noted that the
.central schools: will cut .down
on costs of the county, library,
since fewer calls will be needed.
Clare Vincent (Who was
named for -both council and
reeve) announced his hopes of
moving up eventually, but, clip
not want to come out against
Leiper, when the race for war,
den was in the offing.
He noted the increase in pop-
Illation at Lond'esboro, with
new houses and need for im-
proved streets, "We must think
of -planning this' expansion
well," 'said Vincent. He blamed
the move of the 33/2 mule
stretch of road back to town-
Ship hands' as "lack of interest
on our part over the past years,
We should be ready to meet
these changes," be said.
Vincent stated that 70 per.
cent of 'farmers in Hullett have
income from jobs other than
farming. With school buses as
well, roads must be open in the
morning. This is another reason
for building up roads, to facili-
tate snowplowing.
Dan Buchanan replied to a
question about the township's
action towards using the cen-
tennial grant, by stating the
council 'had applied for per-
mission to apply it to renoVa-
tons to the hail, including
stage and roof.
He spoke in favour of tile
drains, and promised to bring
up to date the by-laws govern-
ing this, which have not been
revised since 1932. He was
strongly in favour of building
up township roads, and noted
need for attention to safety on
