The Week of Prayer in Clin-
ton will be observed by wor-
ship At two evening services
under the auspices of the Clin-
ton Ministerial Association,
,Sunday evening, =January 6,.
service will be conducted in
Wesley-Willis United Church at
7,30 p.m. with the Rev, Ross
MacDonald, BA, Carmel Pres-,
byterian Church, Hensall, prea-
ching,
On Wednesday evening, Jan-
nary 9, the second service will
be at 8 o'clock in. the Christian
Reformed Church with the Rev.
Clifford petit BA in the pulpit.
The whole community is in-
vited to recognize the need for
divine guidance in the year
1963, and all citizens are re-
quested to join in these week-
of-prayer services.
"The Lord is nigh unto all
that call upon Him, to all that
call upon Him in truth, He will
fulfill the desire of them who
fear Him. He also will hear
their cry and .will strengthen
them." Psalm 145.
SS 4 Club Had
Christmas Event
The December meeting of
the SS 4, Community Club of
Goderich Township was held at
the home of Mrs. Jack Merrill.
The president, Mrs. William
Lobb presided.
Mrs. Jim Lobb read the min-
utes of the former meeting and
the roll call was responded to
by 15 members. Mrs. Lorne
Tyndall read the treasurer's re-
port which showed a balance
of $52. Nominating committee
brough in the slate of officers
for 1963.
The remainder of the after-
noon was spent in playing court
whist. A Christmas pot-luck
lunch was served and follow-
ing the lunch there was an ex-
change of Christmas gifts.
The next meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. Car-
man Tebbutt on January 10.
Note change of date. Roll
call will be "to pay your mem-
bership fee."
Wilfred D. Shipley
Wilfred Douglas Shipley, a
former resident of Clinton, died
in Kincardine General . Hospit-
al last Sunday, following a
short illness.
In his 65th year, Mr. Ship-
ley was born in Hullett Town-
ship and worked as a salesman
in Clinton, Toronto and Kin-
cardine.
A veteran of the First World
War, he was a member of the
Kincardine United Church and
is survived by his wife, the
former Beatrice Jervis.
The funeral service was con-
ducted by Rev. Grant Mills,
Clinton, from the Ball and
Mutch funeral home.
Interment was in Clinton
cemetery with Russell Jervis,
Robert Jervis, Paul Jervis, Roy
Connell, George Shipley and
Melville Scott acting as pall-
bearers.

There were 12 different In-
dian language groups in what
is now Canada, ,and, in some
eases the languages were as
different from one another as
English is from Chinese.
Lieut Governor and Mr,
George Muir, MP, Lisgar, Man,
Mr. and Mrs. Johnston were
married at the bride's home,
Parr Line, Stanley Township,
her maiden name being Annie
Stephenson.
They farmed on the Babylon
Line until 1919 when they mov-
ed to La Riviere, Man, con-
tinuing farming there until re-
tiring to Pilot Mound in 1960.
They have one daughter,
Helen, Mrs, Jack Spearman
and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnston has two sist-
ers, Mrs, Wesley Cockerline,
Pilot Mound and Mrs, Luther
Sanders, Seaforth.
Three who were present at
the wedding 50 years ago at-
tended the golden wedding.
These were Mrs. Wesley Cock-
erline and a niece and nephew,
Mrs. Russell Consitt and Elmer
Turner.

Carols and Vesper
The Explorer Girls of On-
tario Street United Church
held their annual Christmas
party in the Church on Tues-
day evening, December 11. On
Sunday, December 2 the girls
sang two carols at the Sunday
School White Gift service and
presented three white gifts.
At the regular meeting on
December 4, the girls made
decorations for the Sunday
School Christmas tree and on
Sunday, December 16 they
took part in the CGIT candle-
light vesper service.

Two Break-ins
At Hensall Sites
HENSALL — Thieves who
broke into two establishments
in Hensall last week made off
with only $4.00 for their ef-
forts.
The entire sum was taken
from the Hensall Public School
where they gained access by
forcing one of the dors.
They took their loot out of
the Red Cross boxes in the var-
ious rooms.
Mr. Ray Consitt discovered
the theft when he went to
the sehool, Friday.
Investigation is being carried
on by Chief of Police, E. ,R.
Davis and OPP Constable Har-
ry Reid, Exeter,
Mr. Davis is also investigat-
ing another break at the of-
fice of E. L, Mickle and Sons

William John Slavin
KIPPEN — Wiliam John
Slavin passed away on Decem-
ber 26 in Victoria Hospital,
London. He was in his 67th
year and had been in failing
health for a few years. He
was stricken with a coronary
thrombosis, was rushed to hos-
pital, and died there a few
hours later.
Born in Tuckersmith Town-
ship, Concession 12, he farmed
most of his life in Tuckersmith
until three years ago, when he
retired to London. He was the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
William John Slavin, Tucker-
smith.
Surviving are three brothers,
Glen, Goderich Township; Fred,
Clinton and Tom, Tuckersmith;
one aunt, Lizzie Slavin,
Queensway Nursing Home,
Hensall.
Service was from the Bon-
thon funeral home, Hensall on
Friday afternoon, December 28
with the Rev. Currie, Hensel]
United Church, in charge. Pall-,
bearers were Pastor Ivor Bod-
enham, Bayfield; Robert Mac-
Lean, Harvey Jacobi, Ernie
Whitehouse, Campbell Eyre
and Archie Hoggarth. Inter-
ment was in McTaggart's
Cemetery.
