Two Calls To
Arnold Keys
Chimney Fire
BAYFIELD — Bayfield Fire
Department answered a call to
a chimney tire at the . Arnold
Keys farm, Babylon line, Stan-
ley Township on Wednesday at
11.20 a.m. Chief Walter Weit-
lake drove one truck, and Bill
McIlwain the auxiliary truck.
,,,,The chimney was built up the
outside of the brick house on
the north wall. The eight fire-
men in key positions, prevent-
ed the spread, and allowed it
to burn out. They cleaned the
chimney out from the bottom,
and checked it for signs of
smoke and sparks, but could
find nothing. They returned
to the village at 1.20 p.m..
They were again called to the
scene at 3 p.m. A spark must
have worked ,through the base
mortar and smouldered in the
lath. It had burned a foot
around the pipe opening up-
stairs near the attic. Firemen
tore off the plaster, and used
the hoses sparingly to extin-
guish the fire,
Russell Kerr acted as chief
for Mr. Westlake, who was not
at home When the second call
came, Reg. Francis and Ray-
mond Scotchmer drove the
trucks. The brigade was back
in the village by 4.$0 p.m,
