Mr, Rd, Johnston, Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Blake and son Harold, qf
Ashfield, were visitors at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. W- H. Johnston last
week. The Blake family have suf
fered another loss in the death of
Dr. Matthew Blake, a very clever
surgeon of Winnipeg. He took a
stroke and for a time there seemed
to be hope but later he passed away.
He is a brother of Ernest Blake and
his mother, who Jives with the lat
ter, recently celebrated her 82nd
birthday. Dr. Blake has a son* who
is also a doctor and he was in
England taking a year’s course when
his father died. He has since re
turned to his home in Winnipeg.
Dr. Blake’s wife predeceased him
some years ago, Mr. and Mrs. W.

The last meeting of the year for
the W M. S. was held at the home
of Mrs. Wiseman with the officers
all returned to their offices by ac
clamation for 1938. The name of
Mrs. A. Gardiner was added to the
sick committee. Mrs. Ferguson and
Mrs. Wiseman gave the reports of
the section meeting. Mrs. P. Stone
gave the topic. The treasuer’s report
for the year was encouraging show
ing an advance over 1936. During
the business session it was suggest
ed that we save magazines and
books that we can -spare for west-
tern relief.

The Ministerial Association of S.
Huron met at the manse on Monday
afternoon, The speaker was Rev. C.
•Lewis, of Kirkton and his subject

given. Lunch was served by the
hostess Mrs. Mair. Among the min
isters who were present from a dis
tance were Rev. Mr. Peters, of Var
na and Rev Mr. Bremner. of Bruce-
field.
Mrs. D. Gladman, Crediton, was a
visitor with Mrs. Mair on Monday.
A jolly time was spent on Friday
evening at the church with fifteen
