John J. Cluff was elected as may-
. or of Seaforth to, fill the vacancy
created last week by the death of
Mayor A. D, Sutherland. Mayor Cl'uff
has been acting mayor since early
in the- year and is now in his 29th
year in municipal office in Seaforth.
For 17 years he has served on the
council and -he was a member of
the Public Utilities Commission for
13 years'. His was the only nomina
tion for the office.
George D. Ferguson and H. E.
Smith was nominated to fill the va
cancy caused when Councillor Cluff
resigned to assume the mayorship.
The Main Street W. M. S. met on
Thuisday afternoon in the church
parlour with Miss Hogarth in charge
and sixteen members -in attendance,
The meeting was opened with sig-
ing “What a Frienct we have in
Jesus” which was followed by the
Lord’s Prayer in unison. Miss Ho-
,garth read the devotional leaflet af
ter AVhich Mrs. Medc» and Mrs. Ab
bott lead in prayer. “Take Time
to be Holy” was then sung and the
president, Mrs. Medd, took, -charge
of the business. Two sick members
were remembered by cards
flowers. Mrs. Layton gave
last chapter of the Study Book in a
very interesting story form. It
was decided to take the new Study
Book “(A New ’Church in a New
World.” for the next year. “Have
ye heard the song "from the Golden
Land” was then sung. Mrs. C.
Johns lead in prayer for a mission
ary. The October meeting will fee
held at the home of Mrs. Layton,

Mrs. Alfredda Dickens, wife
Richard Dickens of the fourth con
cession of Biddulph Township, died
on Saturday at her home, in her 64th
year. She was formerly Miss Alfred
da Atkinson, daughter o£ the late
, Mr. and Mrs. John Atkinson. -She was
born in Biddulph Townshiip and 'liv
ed there all her- life, for the' past 34
years on the farm whfere she died.
She was a member of the St. Pat
rick’s Anglican church, Saintsbury,
and active in the women’s associa
tion -of that church. She is survived
b'y her husband and. two daughters,
Mrs. Earl AtK-insop, and Mrs. Hebei’
Davis, both of .piddulph. The funer

on Monday afternoon with interment.
