TRINKETS OF OLD GOLD
A unique collection of old jewel
lery which takes one back more
than one -hundred years ago, back
to the days of fine old bracelets,
broaches and lockets, when one of
women’s dearest treasures was a
locket containing strands of hair
of departed loved ones is to be seen
in the jewellery store window of S.
B. Taylor at the present time. One
quaint old locket is in loving mem
ory .of a departed 'husband and son.
Beneath the glass which centres the
old golden piece are strands of hair
beautifully braided. One strand is
dark interwoven with the other
strand, light in color. It is un
doubtedly the hair of tihe husband
and child. On. the back is a delicate
inscription which tells of the passing
of the two loved ones
hundred years ago.
Mr. P. B. Crews, gold
Toronto, who is located
lor’s Jewellery store, says he runs
across some unusual incidents of
people who bring in these quaint old
articles of jewellery. Some of them
are really in need of cash and are
glad to sell because gold is at the
highest price right now, $35 an
ounce. Others sell because they really
want to dispose of real old jewellery
such as lockets, brooches, old ear
rings and otiher articles.
T-he testing of old gold for its va
lue is an interesting process. Every
thing in the way of testing is done
through the application of acids and
the resultant color is compared to
the genuine gold, A drop of acid
on a ipiece of brass plated with gold
immediately reveals its worth. Any
thing wbiich contains gold Is accept
ed by Mr. Crews. He Will be at Mr.
Taylor’s all this week. Open evenings
