Mrs. Margaret Vair, of Havelock, is visiting for a few weeks with her" mother, Mrs. Robt. Bonthron. Mr. James McEwen returned to Toronto on Saturday after spending the holidays with relatives. Miss Margaret Buchanan, R.N., of Port Huron, spent the week-end at the home of Mrs. Alex Buchanan. Mrs. D. A. Cantelon has returned to her home after spending a few weeks with her son, Mr. Ferris Can­ telon. Miss Myrna Hudson, of London, spent a few days recently at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Hudson. The local skating rink is being well patronized by the young people of this vicinity. The ice is now in very good condition. Mr. and Mrs. Harris, of Detroit,1 have returned to their home after spending the holiday with the ter’s mother, Mrs. E. Rennie. The Presbyterian Young entertained the Young People of the Anglican church on Tuesday night. A watch night service was held at 11.30 at which Rev. Mr. Farr was the preacher. Mrs. Jane Henry had the misfor­ tune a few days ago to fall at her home here and at present is suffer­ ing from a fractured shoulder and arm. She will be confined to her room for some time. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Miss Joyce Scruton is spending a few days with her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Scruton, of Port Dover, having gone there with them when they returned after spending Christmas with relatives in town. The euchre and dance which was held in the Town Hall here on Fri­ day, December 27the under the aus­ pices of the Junior Farmers’ Insti­ tute was fairly well attended. The ladies’ first prize was won by Mrs. Campbell Eyre; gents first prize by Mr. Clarence Reid; consolation prize Mrs. Tinney; lucky lunch ticket, Miss Annie Coleman. ’ In the Churches Services in the three churches on Sunday last were well attended: In the United church Rev. Mr. Sinclair delivered two well thought out ser­ mons in his usual able manner. In the morning service Mr. Sam Ren­ nie sang a very pleasing solo. In the Presbyterian church Rev. She was in her 75th year. Although Mrs. Gower had not en­ joyed good health for the past year, her passing was not quite expected. Through her passing Shipka has lost a good neighbor, one who was al­ ways ready to help in time of need. League met Sunday ev­ ening in the basement of the church, with a good attendance and the Lit­ erary Convenor Violet Squire in the chair.
